The official story on Iraq has never made sense. The connection that the Bush administration has tried to draw between Iraq and al-Qaida has always seemed contrived and artificial. In fact, it was hard to believe that smart people in the Bush administration would start a major war based on such flimsy evidence. The pieces just didn't fit. Something else had to be going on; something was missing.

In recent days, those missing pieces have finally begun to fall into place. As it turns out, this is not really about Iraq. It is not about weapons of mass destruction, or terrorism, or Saddam, or U.N. resolutions. This war, should it come, is intended to mark the official emergence of the United States as a full-fledged global empire, seizing sole responsibility and authority as planetary policeman. It would be the culmination of a plan 10 years or more in the making, carried out by those who believe the United States must seize the opportunity for global domination, even if it means becoming the "American imperialists" that our enemies always claimed we were.

Once that is understood, other mysteries solve themselves. For example, why does the administration seem unconcerned about an exit strategy from Iraq once Saddam is toppled? Because we won't be leaving. Having conquered Iraq, the United States will create permanent military bases in that country from which to dominate the Middle East, including neighboring Iran.

In an interview Friday, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld brushed aside that suggestion, noting that the United States does not covet other nations' territory. That may be true, but 57 years after World War II ended, we still have major bases in Germany and Japan. We will do the same in Iraq.

1. Why are people just now getting this?
Edited on Sat Jan-22-05 05:26 PM by Clark2008
It's like they haven't even heard of the PNAC.

Which, they probably haven't.

7. Either people don't know, don't care, or are in denial
I think if you go back to the 1930s in Germany, people felt the same way. They probably knew what was happening was not good, but I doubt they knew before hand that it would lead to things as they eventually turned out: Mass destruction, misery, death, etc. The course of history had changed, and I think we're about to hit a watershed moment like that once again. This time, the change will happen on US soil, not European soil. Things have already changed.

9. Just realized that myself
It is the lead article in informationclearinghouse, thought it was new! That it is 2 years old is amazing.

I've sent him a message asking if he has an update/follow-on.

2. Global empire.
That's they way I understood Bush's speech.

...This war, should it come, is intended to mark the official emergence of the United States as a full-fledged global empire, seizing sole responsibility and authority as planetary policeman. 4. Yep, it's all about global domination
The plan has always been global domination. For some odd reason, the media never wants to say that though. Kinda makes ya go hmmmm doesn't it?

6. ummmmm..... DUHH, Jay!
Geezus.... :eyes:

The goddamn fucking PNAC agenda (aka the 21st century Mein Kampf) has been easily accessed on their own website for the entirety of Dipshit's illegal residency, and they're just now getting around to reading it???

Is it because now that there's no legal way to remove this fucking bastard from office, that they can talk about it???

10. aha, so bushinc is just pushing America's interests!
I see!
And even if we disagree, no one can complain about the basic fact that BUSH IS DOING IT ALL FOR US!
I see!
And the corruption of America's media? no problemo, it will right itself in time...
I SEE!
And the corruption of biz community? It too will bounce back, better then ever cuz laws will be written to right the wrongs...
I SEE!
And 911, the preplanned murder of 3000 americans, the poisoning of the well of faith in the US permanent government, the purging of the cia/fbi etc of the men who made the orgs so capable a 911 operation was carried out in broad daylight and NO ONE suspected anything!
I SEE!
And the open blackmailing of the US conngress into supporting an illegal preplanned war against a hapless country....well that's just harsh reality buddy...
I SEE!
(the real reason for 911 was to prevent the media from revealing to the electorate that bush hadn't won the 2000 election, by preventing the publication of the NORC results late sept/01. Additionally, 911 trapped the pro bush media ie the corporate media (msn) on bush's side of the rubicon, forced them to continue helping bush and preventing them from revealing the truth...truth is toxic to bush, and also the men who run the mass media...anyway, that's my take)

12. The problem is a whole lot of people secretly crave Empire.....
Think about it. "We" always are going around proclaiming we are number one, so what does that really mean? Maybe the vast majority of people here in the US of A crave validation for their base desire to dominate the world.

Does anyone actually think this is going to cause alarm amoungst the American public?

Anyway, the time to act, to grab after world power has passed. Thankfully, it came and went while Clinton was in power> Now, our debt is far too high, our trade balance is out of wack. our wealth gap has widen so far that one foreign "adventure" gone sour could produce real class warfare here at home.....
