Poll question: Nancy Pelosi. Our voice for change, or riding Barbara Boxer's coat tails?
My intention isn't to start a flame war. I'm asking an honest question.

I believe that Barbara Boxer is "the real deal." I trust her. She's our best shot at driving a stake in the ground, of taking back the country we have lost to George W. Bush.

Nancy Pelosi does not impress me. I don't trust her. I remember her "rebuttal," or "equal time response" to George W. Bush's State of the Union address...weak and pathetic. In the last week she has made a few public statements, but it bothers me that they came at a time when Barbara Boxer is receiving much-deserved applause for doing what's right.

I believe that Nancy Pelosi is all talk. I believe that when the going gets tough, Pelosi will go with George W. Bush.

Your thoughts?

1. Like her or not, she's her own person.
I don't see any coat tails issue. You need more choices.

Would I have chosen her to succeed Gephardt, absolutely not. But that was not your question.

2. It's not really a question of ideology, but effectiveness
The problem with Pelosi is that she just isn't an effective leader. A party in opposition needs to take the fight to the other side and not just react to what the party in power does.

3. she's a progressive
but a lackluster speaker. Her heart is in the right place, but I question her leadership abilities.

4. That's my impression...
"Her heart is in the right place, but I question her leadership abilities"...

I wonder if the leader in her will emerge as Bush ATTEMPTS to move forward with his "agenda."

5. Well, she did write a letter to SS asking them to stop
Edited on Sat Jan-22-05 11:05 PM by Ice4Clark
the Bush Administration's use of propaganda to push the President's plan to cut Social Security benefits.

snip:

"There is a pattern of propaganda by the Bush Administration that must be stopped," Pelosi said. "It has paid a conservative commentator to covertly promote No Child Left Behind, produced fake video news releases designed to look like real news reports, and is using Social Security Administration employees to undermine Social Security. We must probe the disturbing depths of these scandals to determine how such unethical decisions are being made. These underhanded tactics are not worthy of our great democracy. The President's commitment to freedom around the world should extend to the freedom of the American people to live without their tax dollars being used to run a government propaganda machine."

The text of the letter can be read here.
