Families of servicemembers killed in Iraq turned away at Pentagon
By Leo Shane III, Stars and Stripes
European edition, Friday, January 21, 2005

WASHINGTON — Pentagon police on Wednesday turned away family members of troops killed in Iraq who wanted to confront Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld on the reasons for the war in Iraq.

The group of about 20 was stopped before entering Pentagon property by about a dozen officers, who told the protesters they did not have the proper permission to enter the building.

1. This story needs to get more attention.
I have read some of the letters from these families. They are heartbreaking.

Rummy, like his boss, is too cowardly to meet with the bereaved families, or to attend funerals.

It is not as though these are real people to them. They are pawns in a neo-con game.

Thanks for posting.

3. Protesters?
If I'm thinking of the right group, they are not protesters. They are a group of military families who have been asking politely to meet with Rumsfeld for quite some time. I think Mike Malloy read a letter on his show one night from one of the mothers to Rumsfeld, asking for the meeting.

According to the letter, Rumsfeld hasn't even bothered to respond to numerous requests for a meeting.

This is shameful. I am glad Stars and Stripes is telling the story, but it should be on front pages across America.

4. Rummy thinks they should be satisfied with his auto pen regards
Dear Parents,

Sorry about your stealing your kid's honor and life in this whole 'we really did lie to you about WMD thing'. But you know, we have a lot riding on this baby and George and his friends need the oil, Israel needs our protection--again, and so we just thought you guys would be ok with it.

Can't we just let bygones be bygones? Afterall, we've gone to war with your American kids before and you people waited at least ten years before you'd had it with us. Aren't you being a little short sighted? Can't you just ride around in your SUV's, shop at Walmart, crank up the heat and resist the urge to recycle anything for a little longer?

Its not like we're trying to blow money on healthcare, imporving the minimum wage, social security, schools or repairing the deficit. We are really doing a good job of being the worst policy makers corporate money can buy. Isn't that what you want America? You gave us a mandate, what more do you want?

Rummy the Dummy
