5. I thought the same thing, DebJ!
I was pleased to see his thoughtful and well-crafted answers to George's questions. Do you think he has been 'coached' to improve his performance, or do you think just the constant routine of answering questions has done the job?

2. I don't mean this as a diss of Dean but...
why is he the only candidate getting media coverage?

Is this part of the reason why Dean is so popular or is it the other way around?

Dean doesn't have the support of most of the DNC voting members. Most of them have been undecided.

3. I understand that he does in fact have the support of more members
than anyone else.

Obviously he also has the highest Q rating of all of the candidates because he just came off a presidential run that got a ton of coverage.

4. Tim Roemer was on the same program last week.
So Dean isn't the only one. But he is popular, and the news programs love to have him on.

10. His ability to get press and attention is another benefit of him being DNC
Chair, IMO. I know whoever wins will be able to get on all the shows but Dean will get even more attention and he is extremely articulate.

That is a NO brainer, is it not?

15. Dean said that because this decision was further out, he had not
looked at it closely enough as yet. He did bang Gonzales hard for the torture memos. I thought this was a good answer, an honest answer, indicating that he looks at these things thoroughly instead of just spouting lines.

19. Actually, there have been a number of editorials advising against Gonzales
confirmation--unlike Rice. His nomination will likely receive far more NO votes than Rice's, and sends a terrible message to the world regarding our condoning of torture.

7. Last night on Capital Gang ...
... the "douchebag of liberty" claimed that 75% of Democrats were opposed to Dean as chair of the DLC.

Of course, he didn't mention where he got those figures, but has anyone seen a reputable poll that has numbers anywhere near this?

24. I'm sure those figures are correct.
I'm opposed to Dean as chair of the DLC myself. ;)

Chair of the DNC though, that's different. He's the best man for the job, and apparently the only one of the current candidates guaranteed not to do the neocons' bidding.

Ah, do you know if this will be replayed at any time in the evening? Our networks all have the snow coverage up here so I missed it.

Is there a transcript at all?

26. Unfortunately, ABC's only cable affiliates are
..Sports channels and the Disney Network. So unlike NBC, they don't have the re-run option. Which sucks, because I missed it myself. Actually slept in for once.

27. There is one option in a few cities
But there is no way to know exactly when it will be replayed.

ABC has a test channel that started in September that is a politically and news oriented channel made to compete with CNN. They re-run the political shows and interviews each day, plus 20/20, and that sort of thing. I think it's called ABC News Express. In Fort Worth, the channel is 175 through Charter and it's interrupted every 10 minutes by local news from WFAA, the Dallas ABC affiliate.

So they will probably re-run the Dean interview, but also I expect the local affiliate WFAA to find a reason to preempt it. Every time a good Democratic interview is going on, WFAA interrupts the coverage to show some stupid police chase or something.

If you're in a major city, you might try looking for it. I stumbled across it by accident when I was channel surfing and it's on, but not even listed in the channel listing.

I'm just being told that we're getting a freeze tonight, so I have to go out and bring in my potted plants and cover my frost tender plants. I'll think about your blizzard and be thankful that it's not worse while I'm cursing the cold.

Anyway, I'll look for the transcript and post it when it's available.

16. Dean responded to one question about policy by saying that
as DNC chair, the job is to be focused on systems that pull from the grassroots, to fund the grassroots, that it is not his job to form policy decisions of the party.

34. Of Dean's ability to fundraise, how much has DFA raised in comparison
Edited on Sun Jan-23-05 03:01 PM by flpoljunkie
to the money his campaign raised before Iowa (about $40 million)--when he rode the anti-war wave to excite many in the base and used effective techniques--"the bat"--to raise large sums. I see that he is still using "the bat" at DFA.

From the DFA website, the answer:

• Democracy for America contributed more than $600,000 to 634 candidates for non-federal office. 319 of those candidates won--a 50% win-loss record.

DFA has raised over $5 million since we became an organization in March 2004. We have donated money to 748 candidates throughout the country--in 46 states and at every level of government. We believe that Democrats will return to national prominence very soon. DFA will continue to endorse and support candidates and train campaign workers and volunteers in 2005 and beyond.

http://democracyforamerica.com/dd_returns.php

_____________

As a one-time contributor to DFA, DFA noted in a pie-chart I received in the mail that 33% of the monies they collected went directly to the candidates. Unfortunately, did not save the accompanying letter. Of the rest, 28% went for Staff Costs & Health Care, 20% for Communications:Mail, Web, Outreach, 10% to Administrative Costs, 5% for Trainings, and 4% for Travel.

35. I've been saying this for weeks now
The job of the DNC chair is to mobilize and fundraise...and travel a LOT...no real policy decisions are made with the position.

I think people think that it's a policy-making position when it is not. If people want Dean to make policy decisions, the best way is for him to run for office....or continue to be the main leader for DFA.

here...maybe the state Dems can finally
finance a viable candidate to run against
