I had sent out to some an article about how negative the views of Bush are and this is what I get in return. I can't stand the "they hate us because of our freedom" crap!
"You know I really don't think that if John Kerry was elected that the reporter who told you about the precautions that are being taken at the school would be no different. It is sad that we do live in a world today where there are real threats being voiced towards our country just because we are free. We are the same country that gave back freedom to the French, the Germans and many others around the world. We give millions of dollars in aid around the world and have done so for many past administrations.
I have many friends in Europe, I know firsthand the dislike of our president by the majority in Europe. I really don't fully understand it and when we discuss it with them they really can't explain it to us either. They tell us that most of Europe has some form of socialism going on. Our friends can't afford to buy their own homes, they have good jobs but must rent. Our friends in Holland had a lovely rental, but because he got a different job with a different income they were forced to relocate to another rental home in another area, just because the gov't said so. That's not freedom as we know it. Europeans tend to be more liberal and I believe that's where they are coming from. I personally don't like big government, it costs me big dollars."
How should I respond?

2. At least Europeans have the option of relocating |

since they aren't shipping their jobs off to China creating large areas of mass unemployment in their homelands. Then the house that is owned becomes a liability.

the government in the netherlands did not tell the couple to move any where. that's first. second when the writer says their european friends can't really explain why they dislike bush -- it's not the fault of their euro friends -- it's because he doesn't want to understand. lastly -- all western governments -- ours included are some form a ''socialst government''. why? because it's the best and most efficient way to mitigate the worst of predatory human behavior in society. christians have had two thousand plus years to do the job and they failed. though their contributions to ethical behavior are always welcome. when they don't add to the problem that is -- i.e. reproductive rights for women.

I can't argue this without facts. If these policies were enacted by a democraticaly elected government, then what is there truly left to argue? So, republicans only like their kind of democracy, and not others? Your anectodotal argument is nothing more than obfuscation.

Every surviving liberal democracy on Earth has "some form of socialism going on", including the United States.
And if his friends can't afford to buy their own homes, perhaps it is because these are comparatively small countries. In fact, the Netherlands is one of the most densely populated nations in the world.
Similarly, buying a home in any major metropolitan area in the United States is also quite expensive. How much does a non-rent controlled living space in New York City, Chicago, DC, etc. cost?
