Terrorism not mentioned in Inaugural Address
Did We Win the “War on Terror”?
23 January 2005

Did I miss something? What happened to the “War on Terror”? It’s astonishing. In the 2,050 words of Bush’s Inaugural Address, the words terror, terrorist or terrorism do not exist. Nor do the words September 11, 9/11, Bin Laden, or Al Qaeda. Conventional wisdom has it that the election turned on the fear of terrorist attacks. We have heard nothing but terror, terror, terror for 3 years. Fight them over there. No attacks on US soil. Smoke ‘em out. “We will not stop, we will not tire, until this danger to civilization is removed”. And yet, one of the most important addresses a President gives is completely void of direct reference to the most serious threat to our security in the 21st Century.

Instead, we were treated to an incoherent and grandiose call to end tyranny for all time and expand freedom to all the world; a bloviated mix of religiosity and imperium without an ounce of humility or genuine respect.

3. Well, "terrorism" is such a "down" word...
...conjuring up all sorts of negative imagery.

Didn't fit with the "freedom with icing on top" theme of the day.

6. He covered up all his failures by using the word "freedom" 27 times
That's what happens when all your excuses for invading a country prove to be false. Instead of attacking because of WMD's, or to thwart terrorism, we're attacking for the sake of freedom. Yeah, right.

7. He won the "war on terror"
once the election ended.

I haven't seen any color coded alerts since then either.

8. You missed your GOP Team Leader memo
We are done with terrorists and on to tyrants. No more terrorism, we are fighting tyranny.

Check your junk mail folder, the memo is probably in there.

"What we need is a Jack Webb moment, “just the facts, ma’am”."

12. Irony of "Fighting for Freedom"
The irony of it all is that the soldiers have been "fighting for freedom" but have none.
Laura Bush needs to feel what the soldiers wives feel! She needs to "feel the pain" because she has no more morning coffee talks, dinner and a good movie, saying "good-night", barbecues, and heart to heart talks. I wish I could find a way to pass the pain to "his wife"!
