George W. Bush: "Wasn't Hillary Duff Fantastic? How About 3 Doors Down?"
http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/_/id/6858775/3doorsdown?pageid=rs.Home&pageregion=single1

"Welcome to the greatest fucking country in the world!" shouted Fuel singer Brett Scallions at a January 18th youth concert in Washington, D.C., that celebrated the inauguration of a president most young people voted against.

<snip>

The modern rockers were supposed to be a less-controversial replacement for Kid Rock, who was removed from the America's Future Rocks Today concert lineup when Christian groups mounted a protest. "Kid Rock's whole thing is get drunk, party, free sex," says Tim Wildmon, president of the American Family Association, whose members sent 100,000 protest e-mails to the Presidential Inauguration Committee. A lyric from Rock's 1990 song "Pimp of the Nation" probably didn't help his cause: "Pimp of the nation, I could be it/As a matter of fact, I foresee it/But only pimpin' ho's with the big tush/While you be left pimpin' Barbara Bush." Says Randy Thomasson, president of Campaign for Children and Families, "His lyrics made me feel dirty and ashamed."

Save for Scallions' f-bomb, the other acts, and the crowd, were on their best behavior. The audience was so respectfully silent during a performance by fourteen-year-old singer JoJo that she had to beg for more noise: "I feel really close to you," she said. "Please scream for me."

When George W. Bush himself took the stage toward the end of the show, he failed to mention Scallions' faux pas but instead offered his endorsement of some of the evening's other performers. "How about Hilary Duff? Wasn't she fantastic?" said the commander in chief. "How about 3 Doors Down? Pretty cool, guys, right? Seem cool to me." If you say so, Dubya.

I can't stop laughing. George, don't try to be cool. To be frank, I think that applies to most politicians. Although I'm sure Kerry could have been more comfortable with such artists as, oh, Springsteen. (It really is funny to compare the Bush inauguration concert lineup with what would have been Kerry's.)
