1. The question is an insult to anti-war sentiment. I refuse to answer.

11. The poll question only deals with politics, not the sustance of
the Rice questioning. It diverts attention from what is being asked to why people are asking.

No, don't pay attention to why we invaded, just pay attention to the nasty Dems questioning Rice and preventing her quick reward for a job well done.

27. Yes, actually they are
AND there is nothing wrong with it...it is like a coming out. They have finally thrown their hat in the ring. They have been standing silently by with hat in hand and NOT PLAYING POLITICS for the sake of the country.

Let me add that Rice is a shoo in and what the Democrats are doing is standing up for their constituents and holding Rice to the fire. That is how the game is played. It is about time that the Democrats have engaged.

28. But they ARE Politicians! What ARE they supposed to 'play?'
The issue griping the Repug's is that the Dem's are still playing at all! Not just sitting on the sidelines...where the Repugs sat them. And they ain't goin' back! Vive le Boxer!

3. Yes! And it's time to destigmatize "politics" just like "liberal"
They better play politics and they better play hardball. This is not a test, this is the real deal.

7. Will they eventually vote to confirm her?
Is so, yes, they are playing politics. However, having the discussion when it is regrettably unavoidable that she be confirmed is the healthiest kind of politic playing I can imagine. Get the facts out there one more time; death by a thousand cuts... Ok, with this administration it will be death by a million. :eyes:

10. We've got to stop letting them use the English language as some
kind of weapon we mindlessly shrink from.

I'm a liberal. That would make me 'way to the left. And I hope the politicians I sent to Congress use the mechanism at their disposal, politics, to do what I want them to do.

Next?

from receiving MORE responsibility is 'playing' at all.

19. They're using the confirmation to open up important issues for debate.
I don't know whether to call that playing politics or not, but I salute them for it. It's high time that somebody in the administration answers for their pre-war rhetoric. Poor Condi just drew the short straw.

It just has developed an negative connotation. And even if it is, who is to say the Republicans are not guilty of it too!

They're politicians. Just because they are playing politics doesn't make it bad, it's how the system works.

24. They sort of are, and they have every right too
Democrats can't keep Rice out, and not all Democrats are going to vote against her.

BUT, we should rake the coals, fling the mud, and expose the truth behind her and the war in Iraq. This is a great oppurtunity for them to do this.

26. Of course they are
Voting against a president's nominees is entirely a political matter. It just so happens that this particular nominee is also completely unqualified for the position.

31. The MSN question should have been:
Edited on Wed Jan-26-05 04:02 AM by Spazito
Are the republicans playing politics? Are the democrats playing politics? Are both playing politics? Are neither playing politics? I remember a time when these questions, in tandem, would have been the norm, sadly that is no longer the case.

edited to add: this post only addresses the question in itself not the question of whether MSN has posted a "red herring question" which is their habit.

32. the ones voting yea for Rice
are the ones playing politiks. It's obvious that the few dissenting voices, mainly Boxer, are being marginalized and taking a big risk therein. I feel like anytime the dems do any dissenting now, its more for party survival than to look good. If that's playing politiks, ok, then. Our big danger now is if the dissenting voices are quelled, and there is no more dissent. That would be really scarey.

after all, it *IS* politics, so what do they expect other than it to be treated as a political issue?
But politics is serious business; we don't "play" politics.
