Durbin was awesome. I can't believe this is even being debated. Condi should be held accountable and fired. Simple gross incompetency or treason, two choices, either is unacceptable.

and skimmed the other thread but from what I gather the Dems who have spoken out have set it right out for all to see(except for old Joe of course). They really called them liars? This is good that they are publicly saying the things we have known and been saying all these years. It is time others heard this. For someone on the fence to hear those words said might just be enough to get them to think instead of just go along. Good job Senators. STFU KBHutchison you sound stupid.

Senators rarely try to make waves when they first start, they try to be conciliatory and "bipartisan."
And I wouldn't take confirmation votes as evidence of party loyalty - remember, Feingold voted for Ashcroft and may vote for Rice and he's one of our best senators.
Judge our public servants by a full evaluation, not just the last vote.

This country is supposed to be responsive to the PEOPLE, not the President. If someone is not competent to be SOS, he or she doesn't deserve to be confirmed, regardless of what the president might want.

Liberal Democrats who supported Salazar knew full well what they were getting - a centrist moderate capable of winning office in a red state. I don't expect Salazar to speak for me more than half the time - but that is still preferable to Pete Coors, who would speak for me zero percent of the time.

We had not only Gary Hart but Tim Wirth elected to the Senate, along with Democratic Governors Dick Lamm then Roy Romer. At the time there were more registered Democrats than Republicans in Colorado -
I used to have the exact time frame and the numbers written down, but now I can't find it - anyway, over a period of time, we had a huge influx of people moving here to take advantage of the cheap real estate - up till the late nineties anyway - many were Republicans from southern California - the joke was that half of Orange County had moved here. Now there are almost 200,000 more registered Republicans. Worst, many of these new Republicans are hard line fundie conservatives, who engineered a takeover of the more moderate old Colorado Republican party.
We can still elect liberals in Co 1 and 2 (Denver/Boulder), but its pretty difficult anywhere else.
Hopefully the takeover of the Statehouse by the Democrats this last election is a sign the scales are starting to tip back our way.

I think this is why they lie so much, they can't be called out for it.
That rule should be changed. DU has more integrity despite disruptors and flaming than the Senate because of this rule.

Saying Americans should learn about other cultures and learn to speak other languages.
Seems they should have practiced what they preach now before they invaded Iraq. It's the lack of knowledge about Iraq and its culture and language that led these ideologues to think an invasion would be a walk in the park. It's that same ignorance that led to 70-90% of prisoners being innocent (see the Extra Features of the Fahrenheit 9/11 DVD with the Swedish reporter going on house-to-house searches in Samarra.)
