1. I suggest fewer than forty
If it's more than forty, then most of them are just for show to the Democratic Party base because more than forty means they could have held up the nomination with a filibuster.

8. absolutely not
Unlike the Dems, the Republicans vote in lockstep on everything. Not a single Republican will vote against the Rice nomination. Not one.

14. At this point it isn't about winning.
We can't win. We're outnumbered. The best thing the Democrats can do is grow a backbone and contest everything shady. Our Congresspeople have to make themselves heard in order to make the public think. There has to be a real opposition party in Congress and we have to be the media in order to stop the disinformation that rumbles through the Republican echo chamber.

BTW, welcome to DU! The ride can get bumpy, but remember, we're discussing politics. At least, that's what I keep telling myself.

And there are 45 Democrats in the Senate.

34. Yeah, I agree they need to be more forceful.
We need to get rid of some of the pink tutu Dems, as Bartcop calls them. Feinstein is on my political hitlist since I am in Kah-lee-fohn-ee-uh. She keeps sending me "excuses" as to why she isn't standing up to the pubs.

6. Confused here...
Weren't there only 2 votes from the committee on this (Boxer and Kerry)? I was pissed about it then; but now I'm wondering if there are "no's" who voted "yes". Don't know for certain at this point, but anyone who does should have had the balls to vote NO during committee also.

They're just talking now, it doesn't mean they'll vote no. Look what happened last time. I predict less than 10 vote no.

18. We'd be lucky to get ten.
So far Kennedy, Dayton, Levin, Boxer, Byrd and Bayh have said they
would vote against her.

Even Bayh of Indiana said" We have a moral obligation to provide
better leadership"

This quote was on the Earthlink homepage news.

19.  think the Dems need to pick their fights, and this isn't one of them.
So Rice is an a** kisser, and will probably always promote shrubs ideas. We don't like it, but if the Pres. name was Kerry, wouldn't you want the S of State to do just that?

Condi has been fairly careful not to do anything provably wrong. I say let this one go. Remember, in this job, as a cabinet member, she will take the criticism too. I think they'd be much better off fighting against Gonzales. There's his advise in his memos, things he did while working for shrub in Tx. etc. There's a lot more to work with, and objections that have real foundation.

22. I disagree. I don't think we should let anything go! Even if Condi gets
confirmed, all of these speeches by the Dems will get it across to the sleeping public that she is a liar, as is * her bossman (actually Cheney and Rove) speaking through *. What needs to be exposed is their lies, thier false justifications, the way they rewrote the intelligence to make it come out the way they wanted -- the way they rushed to war in Iraq with absolutely no provocation -- the way they have murdered innocent civilians and wasted the lives of 1,400 of our soldiers. That's what needs to come out. Who cares about Condi getting confirmed - there's more at stake here -- same for the Gonzalez confirmation hearings and for giving * another $80 million. The Dems need to organizae and oppose, oppose, oppose!

I would be surprised if more than four vote against her though a few others may abstain.

31. Rice's decision to IGNORE reports
gave the 9/11 attack by Bin Laden the go-ahead. Reason enough for me to vote against her.

I can't BELIEVE these people are getting promoted. But it's *. What else is new.

UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUgh I'm getting so sick of Repukes talking about the new agenda to 'spread democracy'.

and it is looking like a very good way to slap down Bush's false claims to unity and bipartisanship.
