Poll question: Who is willing to write to Martin Sheen about defeating Feinstein in 06?
Edited on Tue Jan-25-05 09:44 PM by genius
Anyone interested can get a contact address through the Screen Actors Guild when their offices open tomorrow. Sheen lives in Malibu and could easily defeat Frankenstein in the primary. Anyone with an L.A. County Registrar of Voter's list should also be able to get his address.

12. let me guess. You've ranted on a few message boards..
... to people who can't vote for her anyway. Maybe you have a few friends who feel like you do. And that is a consensus, huh?

Fact is, you have no polling data to support your statement. Actually, you have no data at all.

People in our party hate her? People in our party hate Kerry, Edwards, Dean, Clinton, etc. But people in our party also like them. As they do Fienstein.

you would have as good of chance of beating her in a primary as anybody named in this thread.....

She's arguably the most popular statewide politician in Cali...And if she's the second unfortunately Arnold is the first...

42. LOL! You're so clever!!!!
Frankenstein. Sharp. Only a true creative genius would have come up with that one!!!!

Unfortunately, in the world of people with less sparkling intellects, Frankenstein will have no primary opponent, and will get reelected by a decent margin.

But look on the bright side: you'll be able to wow us with your special brand highbrow hi-jinx for six more years. So get that nickname churning brain fired up for a few years of watching Frankenstein in the non-soundstage version of DC.

8. Martin Sheen is one of the most popular people in the Dem Party
People in the labor movement, the environmental movement, the civil rights movement and and anti-war movement would follow the guy to the ends of the Earth. Check out the CA groups. California Dems hate Feinstein.

11. Well yeah
I knew that he was very active on all of those issues, plus a few more, but I had thought I read somewhere (probably here) that he preferred activism to actually holding public office and as such was unlikely to run.

If he can be convinced I am all for him. I love his politics and he would get one hell of a lot of face time on camera.

13. I guess we need to convince him.
Actually, I had meant to post my earlier response after a posting by someone else and I responded in the wrong place. You seem to know he's a good guy.

Since he's already politically active, I think we could convince him that stopping another war is worth getting into the race.

7. Sheen's considering running for goveror of OHIO.
Maybe.

Actor Martin Sheen may run for governor in Ohio

POSTED: Thursday, December 16, 2004 3:49:13 PM
UPDATED: Thursday, December 16, 2004 6:04:10 PM

CLEVELAND -- Try this rumor on for size - Actor Martin Sheen might run for governor in Ohio.

Sheen plays President Jeb Bartlett on TV's “West Wing.” But the Dayton native has always been active and outspoken in real politics too.

A source that's close to Sheen bets this is all the result of a misunderstanding and thinks a run for governor is unlikely.

The governor's race is in 2006

18. I'm sure he would return the favor.
But if Sheen was rumored to be running in Ohio, there may be a very good reason he chose that state. Perhaps he's a friend of Feinstein? Or maybe he would just prefer to run in his home state.

Anyway, hope you hear something back from him.

17. could easily defeat Frankenstein in the primary - but the lose the GE.
I don't believe Sheen would beat the republicans in the general election. If we put up Sheen, and it looked like he was going to beat Feinstein (which I doubt) in the primary - the repubs would counter with someone like Dennis Miller. Sure, we think he's a nut. But we all underestimated the Schwarzenegger thing too.

This is insane at this time, imo. Discipline for a while, please? Let's working on regaining a majority before potentially losing another Senate seat - especially in my state.

20. Being from Northern California.....I agree with you.
When you combined the Centrist Dems with the Moderate Republicans, you've got 60% of the state....at least.

If Feinstein doesn't win the primary....the Republican running against Sheen would win as long as he wasn't a total shithead. Heck...Reardon might run on the Republican side. Than Sheen would be toast....once the media would get done with him.

Remember that this is the state that elected Arnie. Barbara Boxer won because she was running against a real conservative asshole who had no money.

Feinstein's even has more support in Northern California (normally the liberal side of the state) sewn up than one might think. Remember that she was the Mayor of San Francisco. I think she could even win the Governorship in the next race...if she wanted to.

22. as usual FrenchieCat, I agree with you!!
I used to live in SF and remember the level of support Feinstein has there. Plus now I live in SoCal, where there are lots of repubs and lots of "Arnold Democrats" who would certainly not vote for Sheen but will vote for Feinstein.

I think it's the same argument going on around other topics - a variation on the purist vs. pragmatist stuff that we are all struggling with right now. Ultimately I think all this struggle will probably be good for our party, but I am worried that for the short term (next two election cycles) we will continue to fight about this stuff and doom our party to further losses.

Hope not!

31. Welcome to DU, ProgressiveRight...
Just wondering:

How do you define Progressive Right?
How does that differ from Republican or Moderate Republican?
Or differ even from Democratic Centrist?

Just curious...

38. i don't know
Edited on Wed Jan-26-05 01:41 PM by progressiveright
labels don't make sense anymore

right mostly stood for fiscal responsibility back in the days, now the democratic party is the party of fiscal resposibility, democrats were the ones who passed pay-as-you-go bill during clinton that actually restricted growth of government for the first time in us history. republicans took many positions (christian right family values shit, giving taxpayers money to corporations, unrestricted capitalism that leads to anarchy and monopolies, giving neocons blank check to attack anybody) that makes it impossible for anybody with a brain to support them.

p.s. as it says in my profile i don't believe in being moderate for the sake of being moderate, its better to take principled liberal or conservative positions on issues, and come out as a centrist when its all taken together.

People need to familiarize themselves with the California Democratic party...

African Americans, Hispanics, and Asians make up the majority of the California Democratic party... That is not the demographic that goes ga ga over a fella who plays the president on television...
