Opinion on Hillary for President
Edited on Tue Jan-25-05 10:23 PM by BayCityProgressive
I am not saying I support her in 08...at this poitn I would support ANY Dem short of Zell Miller who could win...but what do you guys think of this analysis I found while I was google searching? Please try to put preconceived notions of Hillary to the side.

7. Me too - Hillary is a non-starter.
The polarization over her is so high, a Rove effort to demonize her would be a cake walk.

5. The Republican organizational response to Hillary running for president
would dwarf their efforts against Kerry in '04. The Swift Boat vets would look like the Teletubbies compared to what the Reps have in store for a Hillary run.

In addition, there are still a lot of sexists in this country. I think we'd have difficulty getting any woman elected president at present. Sad, but true.

That being said, I wouldn't mind seeing Boxer take a shot at it.

8. If she were the DEM candidate I would vote for her
Edited on Tue Jan-25-05 10:40 PM by jonnyblitz
despite my opinion of her because I always vote for the DEM. of course I might piss and moan about her every day until the election but I would vote for her anyways.

I am not sure what to think of the analysis you link to. I don't think she would win but I can't predict the future.

9. I don't see any real
outstanding Dems who could run. If Bush fucks up really really bad Boxer may be the perfect person to run. She could say she had the knowledge and courage to stand up to the GOP whne it counted.

21. Exactly ... no Hillary
I saw Buchanan and others salivating over the prospect tonight on MSNBC which sealed the deal for me. Of course, if she's "it," I'll vote for her, but she definitely wouldn't be my first, second, or third choice.

12. Hillary can't win
I'd personally be fine with her. But, she'll never win. Name one single Red State that would turn blue to vote for her? Even Arkansas would be iffy. She's too polarizing a figure. Don't get me wrong, I'd love nothing more than to see Bill Clinton back in the White House.

I think someone will emerge as a top contender that isnt necessarily being talked about right now. Bottom line - Dems have to move a little bit to the center to win back middle-America.

I will drop out of the party if they go to the center! They need to go left to distinguish themselves from the repugs. Repuglican lite will NEVER win!

14. After looking at her voting record, I probably wouldn't
vote rather than vote for her. She is no liberal. And the games being played behind the scenes are disgusting. I used to admire the Clinton's until this election. The ass kissing of Bush has been beyond beleif. I lost any respect for Bill at all. I feel I lost a hero. His praising Bush and saying he won"fair and square" was the last straw. And saying inspite of the war and the Tsami, Bush was "entitled "to celebrate "however he wanted'?
Some will jump in and say,"it is just politics. Former presidents don't criticize the current president'. I remind you of Jimmy Carter, who has more classthan all of them combined. He siad Bush was the "worst president in history" and he isn't kissing anyone's butt.

19. i find myself agreeing almost entirely with your position
other than the part about loosing respect for Prez Clinton, he had & still has the rigth energy to neuter the dangerous 'pubs.

A part of being a member here is keeping an open mind, so I'll do that.

No one said we had to vote for hillary of today, who knows how she will politically transform herself by the primary in 2008.

But you make some very sound arguments Saracat.

16. I am absolutely certain that she can win
She would absolutely short circuit the right wing rage. She should drive them crazy. And really what do they have on her? Nothing - all they have is pure delusion.

So-called 'divisive' people like her have a strange way of winning in the end.

Plus, her husband remains a popular figure.

18. If Bill could put Gore over the top, he might swing it, if things get bad
enough. But I doubt it. I'm still betting on Kerry. If nothing else they did their worst and it didn't do him any permanent damage. He's still the senate's "number one liberal," or pretty close, LMAO.

22. Why should we put preconceived notions of her aside as that's
what the Republicans and their media will use?

Get with the program: it's not about who she really is, it's about how she's been painted.

And, she's been painted into a corner, I'm sorry to say.

27. she would lose . . . as the very first post after the article attests . .
"The vitriol that the right has directed toward Hillary is remarkable - they've even accused (in the usual backhanded manner) her of killing Vince Foster.

She simply cannot survive the attacks they will mount - and the campaign will be completely unable to convey it's message through the noise they will create."

37. No Senators
The odds against a senator being elected president are TERRIBLE. Only 2 individuals in our entire history have been elected to the presidency directly from the senate - Warren G. Harding and John F. Kennecy. None in the past 44 years.

Odds are everything... but it's like starting out behind the 8-ball.

I hear all over the place - from Dems and Repubs alike - that if Hillary wants the nomination its hers, and that she'd be a formidible candidate. I'm skeptical....
