10. NO WAY! Dayton voted for Bush and against the American People
Edited on Wed Jan-26-05 01:58 AM by genius
In fact he gave a very strong speech in support of Bush on January 6th. He can stay in Congress but there's no way I'll vote for that Bush supporter for President.

13. I must have seen the wrong Jan 6th Dayton speech.
He quit the 911 Commission, 'cause it was a cover-up.

I'm reading him differently.

14. No, he didn't.

In fact, that very morning he said the administration was lying about the facts on the ground in Iraq. He had just returned from there.

Regarding his not voting against certifying the election, here is his response:

Thank you for contacting me about the certification of the 2004
Presidential electoral vote.

I strongly agree with you that every American should have the right to vote and know that his or her vote will be counted accurately. It is imperative that in the very near future, we look not just at Ohio, but at the election process in all the states so that we can make necessary changes to the conduct of our elections.

I did not oppose the election results when the electoral vote count came before the Senate and the House of Representatives, because Congress is not the proper public authority to adjudicate election results. For Members of Congress to vote-after a two-hour debate prescribed under existing federal law-whether to reject a state's certified tally of votes, eliminate its electoral votes, and, in this case, throw the election into the House of Representatives for another partisan vote, is a profound intrusion into a Democratic election. Such a process should be pursued only when the most extreme and compelling evidence points to fraud of sufficient magnitude to steal the election. I did not see evidence of such a violation in the 2004 Presidential election.

Thank you again for being in touch with me. Please do not hesitate to
contact me again regarding any other matters of concern to you.

My best regards.
Sincerely,

Mark Dayton
United States Senator

*********
P.S. He was erring on the side of caution because he felt without irrefutable evidence it would "set a dangerous precedent". He has recently come out and said he will make election reform a top priority. He understands full well what it means to him and his election in 2006, IMHO.

16. This is all I could find from 1/6, is there another?
What should the United States’ role be during this turbulent time in Iraq? Although I voted against the Iraq War Resolution in October, 2002, I truly want us to succeed there. The stakes are enormously high for the Iraqi people and for us. I want to bring our troops home as quickly and safely as possible, with their victory secured.

To do so without leaving the country in anarchy or civil war requires: a credible and capable Iraqi government, which is accepted by most of its citizens; a domestic security force capable of establishing and enforcing law and order throughout the country; and progress in rebuilding the Iraqi economy. It is imperative that the national election scheduled for this January 30th take place and that its result be seen as legitimate by the Iraqi people. Those leaders must create a successful coalition government that includes representatives of the country’s major political and religious groups.

Then that leadership and the Iraqi people must stand up to the insurgent forces, both politically and militarily. They must take control of their own country, which they have not successfully done in the past quarter century. And their army, national guard, and police must be sufficiently trained and equipped to defend the people, businesses, and infrastructure from domestic and foreign enemies.

Repeatedly, I asked the U.S. military commanders, as well as U.S. and Iraqi government officials, how they would rate the country’s level of self-sufficiency, using a scale of zero to 100 percent. The answer I received consistently was: between 40 percent and 50 percent. After 15 months of intensive training programs for the Iraqi police and military, that lack of progress is deeply distressing. In the new Congress, I will press the Bush Administration hard to accelerate that training and to tell Congress and the American people the truth about our situation there. What will it take to complete our mission there successfully? How long will it take? What is the strategy and the timetable for our victorious departure?

The brave Americans risking their lives and giving their lives over there deserve to know the truth, as do their families, as do all Americans, whose own lives and well-being are also at risk.

20. I wasn't sure it was the same guy. Thanks. That was worse than anything
Joementum might have done.
Some day, people in this country will come to understand that the right to vote is the most important one. Of course, by then it will be too late.
NOTHING is more important than having a voice in the running of the government through non-fraudulent elections.
W will show you just why. For the rest of your lives maybe.
And Dayton is an accomplice.

12. Let's work on re-electing Dayton for '06 first
The Repubs have identified him as the number 1 target in '06 and his recent actions probably only increased their resolve to defeat him. He will be hit hard just like Wellstone/Cleland in '02 and Daschle in '04 were.
