Ted Turner: Fox News Is Bush's Propaganda Tool
http://www.conspiracyplanet.com/channel.cfm?channelid=97&contentid=1824

Ted Turner called Fox a propaganda tool of the Bush administration and indirectly compared Fox News Channel's popularity to Adolf Hitler's popular election to run Germany before World War II.

Turner made those fiery comments in his first address at the National Association for Television Programming Executives' conference since he was ousted from Time Warner Inc. five years ago.

His no-nonsense, sometimes humorous approach during the one-hour Q&A generated frequent loud applause and laughter.

Among the highlights:
* On Fox News: While Fox may be the largest news network , it's not the best, Turner said. He followed up by pointing out that Adolf Hitler got the most votes when he was elected to run Germany prior to WWII. He said the network is the propaganda tool for the Bush Administration.

1. The saxophone
...is the most widely abused instrument in the world of music, and the legacy of Adolf Hitler is the most widely abused reference in the world of politics.

Hitler gassed six million people and directly caused the deaths of many millions more. Whatever they are, Fox news is not Adolf Hitler. Turner should get a little perspective.

10. Hitler didn't magically appear in 1939
Edited on Wed Jan-26-05 03:34 PM by jpgray
He had to build up to his atrocities, and aspects of that buildup viewed in isolation can be compared to our present situation. Most of his propaganda techniques are in use by the current administration, and the consolidation of media and scapegoating of shadowy "outsider" figures for the nation's problems are straight out of the Goebbels' playbook. To say "but x didn't gas six million Jews" in an attempt to write off an otherwise valid comparison is lazy, irresponsible thinking. And Ted's point is not that Fox News = Hitler, it's that something which is popular in a country isn't necessarily good for that country.

3. Truth?
How is Fox News like a genocidal dictator who oversaw the deaths of millions of people?

One does a tremendous disservice to the reality of what the Nazis were by making cheap comparisons to Fox News. Turner's an idiot.

6. Comparison?
Before Hitler came to be the genocidal dictator the he was, he first controlled the message to the huddled unquestioning masses-who were ensconced in a cocoon of "collective intelligence." Perhaps that's what Ted means! In the interest of true discourse, you would be well advised to consider removing the use of the word idiot from your vocabulary as regards to others, until you are certain it doesn't apply directly!

8. Then perhaps Ted should say what he means
...instead of sounding like an idiot.

5. Nice words Ted, but what are you gonna do about it?
How about buying back CNN before they become just as bad as FAUX? Because they're damn close already.

7. Actually Hitler Came in Second
I have to correct Ted Turner. Hitler's party did not get the most votes in the early 1930s election in Germany - they came in second. However, there were conservatives in Germany who were willing to support Hitler as Chancellor because he was anti-communist and because they thought Hitler was a light-weight who they could control.

9. And is take on Iraq is pretty good too....
The war in Iraq: "We've spent 200 billion destroying Iraq. Now we've got to spend 200 billion to rebuild it, if they'll let us -- and all to find a nut in a fox hole -- one guy," Turner said. "He posed no threat to any of his neighbors, particularly with us there with overwhelming military superiority." --"it is obscene and stupid"
