I know he wants to run in '08, but why did his morals fly out the window?

16. Prior to '04, I liked him.
He defended vets and wouldn't take any guff from the Repugs even though he was one. All this in spite of the shit the blivet and co. put him through about his adopted daughter. He seemed to me to speak his mind and didn't let any party affiliations get in the way. But he's done a massive 180, and not for the better.

20. He hasn't had any for years and years... A lot of people just bought into
his P.R.

I remember reading in Newsweek, years ago, that there was a vote coming up in the Senate that he felt was very fiscally irresponsible and bad for the country. However, President Clinton felt the same way and was campaigning against it.

John McCain called it a Hobson's Choice as to whether vote his conscience and his convictions which would give Clinton a win or to vote as the Republican Party wanted him to vote.

He voted against his conscience and his convictions because he just could see his way clear to giving a win to Clinton.

No morals, no integrity.

44. Brainwashing ... there is no other explanation...
Seriously, considering how valuable his 'support' is to **, despite his seemingly 'reasoned' perspective, it would make sense that some form of long-term intensive psy-ops have worked on his already tortured soul (pardon the pun).

_IF_ there were such techniques, do you think that ** & co. would HESITATE FOR A SECOND to use it?

Just on their lack of moral and ethical limits, I would not be surprised if history from the far future examines the political mind control used in our age now...

/me tightens hat against mind-control-rays! lol

25. The story turned out to be true though

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6407226/site/newsweek /
The "Outlandish" McCain Offer. Kerry's courtship of
Senator John McCain to be his running mate was
longer-standing and more intense than previously
reported. As far back as August 2003, Kerry had taken
McCain to breakfast to sound him out to run on a unity
ticket. McCain batted away the idea as not serious,
but Kerry, after he wrapped up the nomination in
March, went back after McCain a half-dozen more times.
"To show just how sincere he was, he made an
outlandish offer," Newsweek's Thomas reports. "If
McCain said yes he would expand the role of vice
president to include secretary of Defense and the
overall control of foreign policy. McCain exclaimed,
'You're out of your mind. I don't even know if it's
constitutional, and it certainly wouldn't sell.'"
Kerry was thwarted and furious. "Why the f--- didn't
he take it? After what the Bush people did to him...'"

39. I don't believe it either
I know the essentials are that Kerry asked him "to consider" the possibility. These details of power sharing and restructuring of the office and the quotes are just so much garnish and embellishment and are absolute hearsay.

23. it's because Condi is a torture apologist (amongst other reasons)
Condi denies the Abu-Graib thing is torture.

The only reason why she can do that is because the * admin has redefined torture (thanks to Gonzalez) so that what most people would think is torture, officially isn't torture according to the Bush administration.

In the words of Paul Krugman: "They are careful to phrase the things they say so that it is literally true, just misleading."

30. I wonder if Kerry and McCain are speaking right now
McCain is being more partisan than usual, it seems.

But then maybe he's always this way.

I wonder how much the way McCain has been acting is bugging Kerry, or is the friendship McCain tried to distance himself from above their jobs as Senator.

Is McCain still "weary" of Kerry mentioning their friendship, I wonder?

Putz.
