I guess I still depend on thinking people thinking for themselves, despite skin color. Let's give some credit to those who are asking tougher questions about our future than those who go along to get along.
This isn't a race issue, it's a truth issue.

will vote for the right. And THAT is the only "black" vote they need. Diebold will do the rest.
As for Andrew Young, Hope Sullivan, Dr. C. Delores Tucker, Rosa Whitaker and whoever, supporting Dr. Condoleezza Rice and her nomination to become Secretary of State of the United States of America, we can only assume that they have not heard that when Colin Powell was drafted into the white race, the black race agreed to this on the sole stipulation that the white race took Condoleezza Rice's nasty behind as well. This event can be verified by viewing Chappelle's show which appears on the Comedy Channel alongside the Daily Show, which is the only news program on US television that will touch the truth, albeit with a ten foot pole.
In other words, what we are saying is that it is now very difficult to tell the difference between Andrew Young and Armstrong Williams and the creature that Eddie Murphy picked up outside a bus station at four o'clock in the morning.

19. The reaction, doesn't seem any different |
|
than other highly emotional swipes taken at various democrats whenever they make a statement or take a stand that is percieved to be enabling republicans. Sell out, traitor, etc. seem to be pretty common insults thrown out in the heat of the moment. I would bet there will be more calm rhetoric when the heat of the moment has passed.
Btw, I do find the attempts to frame opposition against Rice as race-based (the image, I think, that Frist is trying to convey) is interesting given the great support Powell received from many of these same senators.

you are saying Black people will en masse turn to an entire party and movement that hates their guts? That makes little sense.

Andrew Young but I'm not going to disrespect him.
What people saying here will turn blacks against the party. Plain and simple.
I'd ask you to trust me cuz I know my people. But then you'd probably not understand that either.

|
Feel better now?
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, even about Young. Having been with MLK doesn't automatically give Young greater insight. Some people disagree with him. He'll survive and I doubt that people posting here on DU will make many Black people vote republican.

I agree. There is no reason to defame Andrew Young who is one of the greatest Americans of all time. I will tell you that is one of the great things about Young is that he judged individuals by their character. We can disagree with him or others, but to call him a traitor is ignorant.
I would encourage others to read his biography an uneasy burden. I heard people calling young some kind of out of touch black eletist. Whatev...this guy took churches in the most rural and poor areas and lived poor cause his parishoners could not pay him. Black eletists my a**. Agree or attack him on the issues but don't attack this man's character.

I call them like I see them. Andy is sucking up to Frist and Condi, and Frist and Condi are not friends of the left, the poor, or black people in general. Those two serve only themselves.

18. Sorry but your post is a steaming pile |

There is no monolithic black vote that will go to the right or the left.
Besides, you can't tell the race of an individual poster. Some posts on that thread are questionable but many might very well be by an African American poster.
Furthermore, Uncle Tom became a SYMBOL of the AA that panders to the master.... it's a viable analogy regardless. I believe the Democrats will prove they are equal opportunity when they oppose other WHITE nominations as well.
There is nothing more pandering than to approve Condi simply because she is black.

20. If you are making accusations this serious link to them or respond |
|
to the posts that offend you. A post like this reflects poorly on DU as a whole and I take offense to the seeming suggestion that there is racism happening here in some large amount. If it is happening I do not support or defend it. I also do not appreciate the suggestion that it is all of us.
On the subject you are making the mistake that Republicans make. Being 60+ and black does not make you right. Being accomplished and black does not make you right for a job. If you are wrong you are wrong and if you are a liar you are liar, skin color be damned. This subject is that simple. I have faith that the African American community would not leave in some mass exodus because the party rejects a liar, accomplished or not, for an important government position. The travesty is that Condi is the only chance at diversity in the cabinet. She's it. Vote against her and we have a lily white cabinet full of men. The shame is on the Repubs.

24. No offense - but editing the title of a thread |
|
without noting it in the post, is often considered bad nettiquette - as it changes how the entire thread is read - as the responses no longer make sense.
Generally if one wants to change - esp at the top of a thread... protocol is to add it with the comment "On Edit" - so the point can be made without changing the thread and making it completely confusing/confounding to later readers of the thread.
