Poll question: Which is the worse nominee, Gonzales or Rice?
I made no alternative choices on purpose.

1. Gonzales...Rice was merely complicit. Gonzales was integral...

2. Gonzales because he did the bidding of his master and
performed legal gymnastics to make torture "legal."

If he can do that, who knows what he is capable of?

6. Like asking which is worse
burning to death in a fire or being boiled to death in oil.

11. But in a fire you may pass out from the smoke first.
Anyway, I like the responses so far. I'm just wondering which Senators will split their votes and why?

15. Both are sycophants who allwed themselves to be used
by Bush to destroy human lives. But Rice's behavior precipitated many many more deaths than Gonzo's.

7. so far I seem the lone vote for Rice
She has much more potential for damage in her position than Gonzales will have.

because you post here, though.

14. I too think it is Rice.
Have you ever thought how well loved she is by Bush and then realized it was all her doing, this whole fucking war. It was her and Rumsfield, and Wolfowitz, and Cheney, and they just strung Bush along because he is so stupid he didn't even know how to question Rice's judgement. Rice has the power to really fuck up every diplomatic relation we have. And when diplomacy fails war is the next option. Rice is definately more dangerous.

Gonzales is actively evil.

13. Let's face it, Condi is SOS because the position has been downsized.
We don't do diplomacy anymore. She'll be getting her marching orders from Don Rumsfield. Maybe the vote reflects a sad fact that, if not Condi, we could be saddled with a fundie neocon who'd be a lot worse. <Glass 1/10 full perspective here.>

But Alberto should be a solid 'no' by the Democrats...he could do some serious damage to civil liberties here at home.

16. I voted Rice
I think Rice is worse because of her potential for damage. She will enable Bush to do whatever he and the neocons want, and that is scary. She is our face to the world.

Gonzales was a torture enabler but he was doing his job as legal council, he had not taken an oath to protect the constitution or geneva convention. Rice was an abject failure as National Security Advisor and we know she won't do any better as Secretary of State. For Gonzo I think there might be some sliver of hope.

17. Gonzales,
by concentrating on the 'quaint' aspects of the Geneva Conventions and for all the other aid he's given his friend, from the TX death penalty cases to Iraq.

18. Both are liars and have blood on their hands.
I see no difference since both will still be able to continue engaging in the same sort of behavior with more consolidated power. Both are bad choices.

The fact that he violated the code of ethics for attorneys is very important to me.

20. the State Dept has no real power in this Administration
Condi will be like Powell - zero real power.

This administration doesn't "do" diplomacy.

Gonzalez in the real threat.

21. Where's the "They Are Both Fascist Pieces of Shit" option?
If this is a trick question to excuse voting for one of them, then the answer is vote no on both, and any other similar nominee that Bush/PNAC puts out there

22. I've changed my mind on Gonzales. I would rather die than vote for him.
I was ignorant before about him, but I would vote against his confirmation if it meant losing my job.
