3. I'm with Wi_Dem -- a lot of us are repulsed.
I have a hunch that Dubya is dismissed even more savagely across the breakfast tables of Europe, and properly so.

We're the loyal opposition, dammit. This is our job.

18. Agreed.
Appearing to be intelligent was one of the things that cost Al Gore the 2000 election, I suspect.

And *no-one* could come up with those malapropisms without trying. I suspect that Bush's speechwriters are briefed to throw in the occasional deliberate mistake, to reassure voters that he's not a dangerous intellectual, and give the columnists something other than his policies to criticise him for.

Some of them must have been made up on the spur of the moment, though, I suspect, and that must take a real gift.

15. In that it drives us to negative action instead of positive, yes
We need to drive our agenda. We need more offense. Our revulsion can fuel us, but we must focus our action on presenting an alternative to the Right Wing agenda, and then working for that alternative with all our might. Otherwise we're just a bunch of people muttering into our beer.

Does that make sense?
