Kerry's new ad, a montage of New Hampshire supporters |
|
TITLE: "Best Prepared."
KEY IMAGES: The New Hampshire residents talk to the camera. Footage of Kerry on the campaign trail also is shown, along with clippings of newspaper endorsements from The Telegraph of Nashua and The Concord Monitor.
ANALYSIS: This is Kerry's first new ad since winning the Iowa caucuses Monday night. He was determined to stay positive in his TV advertising there, and this ad carries his upbeat message into New Hampshire. Kerry uses endorsements from New Hampshire residents and two newspapers in hopes that others will follow their lead at the polls. He used that tactic in the final days of campaigning in Iowa with a similar endorsement ad.
The ad also keys in on Kerry's electability and two issues popular with Iowans who supported him: health care and experience. Iowa caucus entrance polls conducted for the AP and the television networks by Edison Media Research and Mitofsky International show that Kerry outdistanced the other candidates among health care voters. The polls show that while only 15 percent said it was important that their candidate "has the right experience," an overwhelming 71 percent of them supported Kerry, the senator from neighboring Massachusetts and decorated Vietnam War veteran.
All this shows that Kerry is building on a strategy that worked in Iowa. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/news/archive/2004/01/20/politics1904EST0747.DTL
