"you have to feel good about Condi being sworn in"
I listen to CD101.9 in the morning. It is smooth jazz and doesn't have a lot of advertisers and nonsense. They say very little but this morning the musical host (aka "DJ"), Dennis Quinn decided that in between songs he would tell us all how we should feel about Condi Rice being sworn in. This is a fairly close paraphrase:

"No matter what your political persuasion, you have to feel good about Condileeza Rice being sworn in as Secretary of State this morning."

His reason was this week's RW meme: "because she is African American".

Now this is a station that is 80% music, and which covers only headlines of news stories and the musical host is a fairly intelligent guy. It just made my blood boil.

Why should people feel any better about being lied to, mislead, Condi perjuring herself, Condi NOT showing * a memo entitled 'Bin Ladn determined to strike within the US', a woman who is so word-parsing-conscious that she can say "had I known..." etc, etc. African Americans are in Iraq right now getting their limbs blown off for some puppet show of an election in part because Condi told us all about aluminum tubes and the like. Is that one iota less of a travesty because CONDI is African American ?!

They are getting email from me!

1. Yes, these daze it's the PACKAGE that's important, not the CONTENT
She's untouchable like Justice Thomas. How dare you say ANYTHING negative about our Condi. Makes me sick when racists accuse me of racism. :(

5. "Barely competent?"..."Incompetent?" I hardly think so
On the contrary...both are highly intelligent and very competent.

The problem is that they are both liars willing to toe the RW Party line.

9. Leaving aside whether lying on the job is consistent with competence
Rice is most certainly NOT competent. She's in charge of coordinating intelligence, which was a huge, abject failure. She's let drop the memo warning Bush on alqaeda wanting to attack in the US, which was such a mindboggling failure she made up an idiotic lie about it to the 9/11 committee. She's in charge of Iraq stabilization. How's that going?

Everything Rice touched as NSA turned to shit. She wasn't competent in that job.

But could she be competent as SOS? Nope, because she says that nothing that has happened is so bad or so wrong. Great start with the leaders of foreign nations: either being an idiot or pretending to be one.

10. Because I do not like Rice's political stance nor her lying...
i don't want to let myself get into a position of defending her about a damned thing, so I will let your comments stand as they are. We are on the same team, we just see her competence with different eyes, that's all.

4. Repubs are beating us at our own game...

The Democrats talk a good game about being racially inclusive and for the most part, the Democratic Party has been the ONLY Party to really support African American Civil Rights.

The Republicans however, put one or two black faces, with loyal RW minds into prominent positions and make it APPEAR that they VALUE African Americans when all it really is is window dressing. Condi, Colin, Clarence Thomas...These powerful African Americans don't give a shit what happens to the average African American. Their very behavior shows this.

The Dems on the other hand, have always been afraid to put a black person in a really prominent political position, afraid that the RW would then use that to call the Dems, "the Party of the African Americans" thus scaring off a lot of still-racist white Dems.

Can you see the double-speak here? The Repubs, with only a handful of black voters, put a few loyal blacks in very public, powerful positions. They then take credit for being more "forward-thinking" racially than the Dems and thus a few less politically-aware blacks buy into the lie. White Repubs puff up with pride about "Our N.....s" that prove that we are NOT racist.

If the Dems were to put some African Americans in top positions, the Repubs would counter with this argument: "See, we told you they were the party of Affirmative Action and now they are being run by Welfare Queens."

White Dems, aware of this argument, have held back their extremely qualified African American members based on this fear.
The Dems still want to attract the racist white voters not only in the southern states but across America and Democratic Party leaders thinking is that having "too many blacks" out front would definitely scare them off.

Lately, I have been saying that perhaps the centrist Dems see this movement of some blacks to the Republican camp as a positive thing. Their reasoning might well be, "well if we split up the black vote, we weaken its power, so if some of them leave the party we can make up for it by attracting more of the moderate white Repubs who would come to the Dems if they weren't so afraid of being affiliated with the "Party of Black America."

Just because the Democratic Party was the Party that helped blacks achieve equal rights in the 60s doesn't mean that the leaders of the Party in the 21st century feel the same way.

I would like to suggest that DUers become acquainted with www.blackcommentator.com for a good insight (weekly) into the thinking of liberal African Americans. It is an excellent news and opinion site and gives in-depth information into both RW and Progressive African Americans.

11. What about Clinton's cabinet????
Have we forgotten so quickly that Clinton promised a cabinet that looked like American and actually delivered with folks like Ron Brown, Rodney Slater, Jesse Brown, Alexis Herman, Mike Espy, Henry Cisneros, Norm Mineta, Madeleine Albright, Donna Shalala, Janet Reno, and probably some I forgot? Have we forgotten that the Democratic party already had a Black chairman in Ron Brown? Have we forgotten Donna Brazile managing Gore's campaign? We have to be really careful about buying into nonsense that directly contradicts historical facts. It is total bullshit that Democrats did not or do not have Blacks in positions of power. In the House, many of the ranking members of committees, and would be chairs if we ever regain control, are Black. Republicans use short memories and media control to their advantage, but we don't have to go along.

14. Freestyle, I know that you are correct in the numbers but
let's face it, none of those Dems were given the public attention or media exposure that the Repub "blacks-in-power positions" are given. They actually make it appear that Repub blacks have more decision-making positions than the Dem blacks had.

I hold to my position that the Dems in leaderSHIT positions are afraid of being known as the Party of Black Americans.

6. I wonder if DJ's get a little kicker, say $25.00 per endorsement?
Maybe a little financial incentive from the station management to drop a positive comment, here or there. Perhaps, a menu to choose from:

Say something complimentary about Bush - $100.00
Say something in support of fixing Social Security - earn an extra $50.00
Say something derogatory about Democrats - $75.00

It wouldn't surprise me in the least.

Re: Dennis Quinn & Condi Liar Rice - DONT TELL ME HOW TO FEEL

Dennis,

You seem like an intelligent guy but what you said this morning makes no sense. Working in the media is a tough gig these days with all the crap they make you say but I did feel compelled to respond to your comments this morning. You said:

"No matter what your political persuasion, you have to feel good about Condileeza Rice being sworn in as Secretary of State this morning."

#1 Please don't tell me how to feel. My friends and neighbors are in Iraq right now thanks in part to this woman's lies (aluminum tubes, etc.).

#2 This is the same woman who did nothing to prevent 911 and felt no inclination to bring to the President's attention a memo infamously entitled "Bin Laden determined to strike inside the US" As all New Yorkers know, the administration's lack of interest in fighting terror prior to 9/11/2001 cost almost 3,000 of our friends and neighbors their lives. For THIS Condi gets a promotion?!

#3 I tune into to CD 101.9 to avoid all of the BS that is on most morning radio shows. Where am I supposed to turn now that you have joined the RW hate mongers in their lies and memes?

And please remember, when you tell us all how to feel you are including this American orphan and hundreds perhaps thousands like him:
