Republicans more spineless than even our worst dems...
Randi Rhodes made this point on her radio show yesterday, and I realized that she was dead-on. The Republican senators voted to a person for Condaliar, and never asked her a single non-fawning question. The Republicans on the committee overseeing the nomination of Gonzales vote party-line to move his nomination ahead, despite his position on torture and his intervention in Bush's DUI situation in Texas.
(For those of you who don't know, Gonzales went to a court where then gov. shrub was summoned to jury duty and got him off of the jury so that he wouldn't have to answer a pesky questionnaire about whether he'd ever been convicted of a crime. No shit.)

She pointed out that at least twelve democrats and one independent had the courage to stand up to the administration, even in the face of what the Republicans did to Daschle. Not ONE Republican questioned the Bush party line.

This reminds me of a point I made to a group of students last year. Most Democrats try to do what they think is right, even if it is STUPID; while Republicans, with perhaps only a single exception (Ron Paul- really a libertarian) do AS THEY ARE TOLD.

So who is really the spineless party? When you are counting up candy-asses in the Senate, don't neglect to count every single Republican senator.

Some dems may lack courage or may be uncertain, but EVERY REPUBLICAN representative does as he is told, without question. So who is really spineless?

1. Politics as we know it is over. No more intelligent debate.
No more compromise.
No more doing "what is in the best interest of the most constituents"
No more truth.
No more justice.

It's all down to partisanship now.

2. Well, Republicans aren't so much a political party anymore...
...as much as they are a criminal mob.

And nobody wants to piss off the Don...

3. Jon Stewart played a pathetic clip of Kay Bailey Hutchison
I can't find a transcript, but it was so, so sad. Hutchison basically said on the Senate floor that it was wrong to hold Rice accountable for anything.

4. You're right. And my feelings about the Dems are a
frustration that they are not showing the public what we all know. It is beyond frustrating to see them scramble to get their message through, given a media that isn't going to give them the time of day. They have to get fighting mad and make some noise in the form of a cogent, collective message. They've been *too nice* and it is hurting the people they typically represent.

I, for one, did not overlook the Republican candy-asses...it's what I would expect of them.

6. We need to focus most of our energy and our venom on the Republicans
instead of the Democrats.

I do think we need to continue to pressure, contact, harass, etc the Dem's so they know what we want them to do and stand up for but instead of continuing to tear down the Democrats, we need to tear down the Republicans - including the moderates that we tend to "like".

We would rather focus on taking out Joementum and Feinstein, then Chafee, Snow and Collins.

Joementum pisses the hell out of me but I would take him and six new Senators so we control the damn Senate!

My new pet peeve is the fact that we don't go after the liberal/moderate Republicans the way the Rethugs are going after our red state Democrats. We need those seats in 2006!

7. I disagree.
The Republicans wanted Condi Rice in and stuck to their guns. They were resolute, wrong, but resolute. The Democrats came out and held her feet to the fire. Fired hard questions at her, exposed her as a liar and then what did they do? All but 12 of them shrugged and went, "Eh, Okay!" Does not say much for their resolve. If they were not not going to vote for Rice, then why rail against her. I applaud Senators Boxer and Kerry and all the other that stood firm. The others? I find it disgraceful that they talked the talk but caved when it came time to walk.

Randi is trying to put long ears and a fluffy tail on a cat and tell us it's a bunny rabbit. I am not buying it. The Democrats yanked their balls off and handed them to Condi on this one.

16. Nah. They're wimps. They do whatever they are told because they are afraid

of the consequences. They are afraid that Rove might force them into a primary challenge. They are afraid that DeLay won't give them a committee spot. They are afraid that they won't get that golden parachute when they retire from the Senate to a nice, easy 6 or 7 figure "job" that they don't have to show up for.

Most Republicans are there for the power and the money. Oppose the Republican leadership on anything and they lose some of that power and money, indirectly.

17. Ron Paul is a U.S. Representative and therefore isn't in the Senate
to have a say on whether Rice is or isn't confirmed.

11. During the Watergate Hearings
6 R's on the House Judiciary Committee voted yes on the first and second Articles of Impeachment against Nixon and 2 voted yes on the third. Ten voted "no" on all three, including Trent Lott.

Today I don't think you'd get a single "R" in Congess (with the exception, possibly of Ron Paul) to impeach the chimp for any reason.
It would save the taxpayers a hell of a lot of money if we could just buy a big rubber stamp for each Congressional seat currently held by a repuke and simply hire someone to use it whenever the chimp made a proposal.

and any pubbie who steps out of line risks losing party support when reelection time rolls around.

Get rid of Delay, and the whole thing starts to collapse.
