Should Rice & Gonzales Be Confirmed Merely Due To Their Race?
Htuttle asked this question in a thread and it sounds like a pretty good way to counter the Rights attempt to portray Democrats as "playing the race card".

Should Rice and Gonzales be confirmed merely due to their race?

"Precisely how black or hispanic does a nominee have to be in order to get an automatic nod, in your opinion? 80%? 50%? 25%?"

"Some guidelines for us clueless liberals who apparently spend too much time dwelling on nominees' records, and not enough time on nominees' heritage would be helpful."

2. Race should have nothing to do with her "getting the job".
She is not qualified and a liar. Since she bows to the pleasures of king weed, then she doesn't care about civil rights, so giving her the job because of her heritage is a sham and disgrace!

6. Gonzales is a white guy with a Spanish surname
I've lived all over the country, and I've seen very little anti Hispanic prejudice. Most of it has been based strictly on skin color, and much of it has been in border states, although New England was hardly exempt from it.

A white guy with a Spanish surname has probably experienced relatively little discrimination once his skin color was known.

Kneejerk approval because he's Hispanic is just plain stupid. He doesn't identify with brown folks on the bottom. He's a thug, a criminal, and completely unsuited to the job.

7. Um, how about NO???
Race has NOTHING to do with it...it's their atrocious records that should prevent them from taking office...

Of course when you state the absolutely bloody obvious that the ONLY reason they were picked in the first place was because of their ethnicity, you are labelled a racist....

It's an end-around....find folks of colour that have sufficiently right-wing views, nominate them, then when they draw fire from the Dems, paint the DEMS as being racists....

That way the repukes get two victories with one shot, they get their hand-picked facists installed, and can say to the minorities, "see we promote people of colour ALL THE TIME and it's the DEMOCRATS that want to keep you down"....

Why is it that no-one on our side of the aisle can grasp this simple concept....???

They're incompetent liars, traitors, and disgusting, reprehensible people.

12. but who are we kidding...is the bar higher for people of color?
We've had so many really disasterous
nominees and cabinet members who are
and were white and they are held to
a much lower standard.

Like the candidates who were voted
in by one or two voice votes yesterday
in the Senate...not the cream of the
crop certainly.

Can we get the best to leave their
well-paid jobs to really lead this country
to a positive and less dangerous future?
Or do we settle for those who work for
four years then take their benefits,
pensions and work for the highest paid
lobbying firms.

I still think Rice and Gonzales have
records of lies that have cost this country
an enormous amount in capital, reputation
and lives.
