Limbaugh could sell new Mac
This week, Apple Computer is launching a campaign to sell a new product, the $499 Mac Mini, that portends to transform the world in a way the original Mac didn’t. But Republicans will be needed for the campaign to succeed.

*skip*

There are, in fact, devoted Republican Macintosh users, but that is not the perception. So Apple desperately needs to introduce a replacement image to achieve the original Mac’s vision. There would be no better way to do this than to add a Republican or two to Apple’s board of directors. Mac users such as Karl Rove or Arnold Schwarzenegger adviser Mike Murphy would be possibilities, but Rush Limbaugh is the most obvious choice. Rush is an ardent Mac evangelist and knows a thing or two about marketing. Even if Limbaugh is not put on Apple’s board, the company should market through his daily radio program, paying Rush to tout his favorite computer the same way he builds mattress sales for Select Comfort.

Apple marketers also need to understand that restoration of their brand’s image in conservative and Republican circles can resonate with various factions of the party. I have already read favorable gun-owner comments about the Mac Mini on the discussion boards of Ted Nugent’s populist United Sportsmen of America website. James Dobson and his Focus on the Family might be intrigued by a computer that is affordable for young families and not subject to porno pop-up ads. And business Republicans will be impressed by the seamless integration of the Mac’s OS X operating system with corporate networks.

The Republican Party is a big tent. Apple should come on in.

I'm assuming The Hillis a conservative publication?

Edit: Oh, and in the extraordinarily unlikely event that apple DOES put Rush on their board, I'll burn my mac and mail it's remains back to Cupertino.

4. I don't care if they market to repukes.
Then they can make more donations to dem causes.

I just hope they will restrict the ads to RW outlets, so as not to offend the core user base of "free-thinkers".

I am a Mac user because it is a superior product. I really don't care what OxyRush uses.

6. Considering that Apple is a very blue company,
and Al Gore is on their board, I don't see them putting Limbaugh on the board of directors.

If they want to buy advertising time, I don't see a problem, though.

8. I hope Uncle Steve remembers that 59 million ( & probably MORE!) voted...
AGAINST the Repukes!

I buy a Mac and pay the higher prices Apple charges because it is a superior product AND because it is a "blue", progressive company.

If Apple turns red, the cost to value ratio suddenly wouldn't be so attractive anymore.

I think Rush would be much more at home using a Dell.

12. Well, that would make my decision easier....
I was debating whether or not to buy one of these new Macs (as I'm not a Mac user by nature, and can't afford the G5). But if the proceeds are going to Rush's Oxycontin dealer, then that ain't gonna happen.

15. The article does not suggest Apple is considering
Rush, so go ahead with your plans.

13. This is a dumb article
It has absolutely no quotes from any Apple officials about targeting Republicans. It's almost like this article is saying, hire Republicans or you will fail. I personally have no problem if Apple targets Republicans, but I highly doubt they will see a need to put Limpballs on the payroll since he basically gives the Mac free advertising by touting it all the time. They would do better with Ah-nold, have him terminate the PC or something. But I doubt any of this is going to happen because again, this was all written by some moron for The Hill, it's not coming from Apple itself.

14. Apple donates almost entirely to Democrats
so if Republicans are stupid enough to send their money to Democrats then why not? money is money

That's just like boycotting Heinz, a Republican donor, just because of Teresa.

17. Damn! This would happen now...
I'm going to buy a Mac laptop next week to replace my old desktop Performa

Shoot! I don't want to support them if they are getting ready to go red and especially if Limbaugh has anything to do with it.

But I love my Mac...love it....

I'm on a PC right now and it cannot compare...

I may have to become a Centrist Democrat here...

18. "That is not the perception?" According to who?
Just because the author of this insipid piece says so, doesn't make it true. What is this "perception" that a computer is more popular on one side and not the other? Where is the 6 month study and double blind survey from Berkely and Tex A&M that proves this assertion? This is the same as Faux News saying..."Some people say..."

What a load of crap.
