Poll shows Bush support on Social Security

By Donald Lambro
THE WASHINGTON TIMES

A majority of Americans, including nearly one-third of Democrats, support President Bush's proposal to let workers voluntarily invest part of their Social Security payroll taxes in stocks and bonds, a nationwide poll shows.
Despite a blistering national newspaper ad campaign against Mr. Bush's plan by the AARP and a growing chorus of daily attacks by Democrats, a survey of 1,004 likely voters slated to be released today finds strong public support for the idea, particularly among workers younger than 50.

2. The Wash Times is a well-known tool of the Right Wing
I'm quite sure they are well financed by the RNC.

I think it was a WT reporter that Teresa Kerry told to "shove it!"

4. Actually it was a Pittsburgh Tribune person
who had that run-in with THK. The Pittsburgh Tribune is not any better than the Washington Times. In fact, it may be worse, because it's just one step up from being a tabloid but bills itself as a real newspaper - it chronically reports sensationalist news with sensationalist headlines and is so biased in a right-wing direction that it doesn't even bother to pretend that it's fair journalism. And it's shocking how many people in Pittsburgh buy that piece of tripe every day.

*end of rant*

18. Hmm, I just realized and then checked for sure but the story about
Reid's staffer getting arrested during the inauguration was pumped out by this same jerk off paper. Figures. I knew it was a neocon buddy but I sure hope they get investigated.

9. Bush's Social Security proposal is part of a larger Rove strategy
to make the republican party the majority party for the next 40 years or so. Bush's plan is intended to attract the support of voters under 30 who will be angry at the democratic party if his plan is defeated. This is why Rove chose Social Security to be one of Bush's most important domestic issues even though both Medicare and Medicaid present a much more serious financial problem for the country in the future. Rove wants to create as many new lifetime young republicans as possible.

The democrats need to make it as plain as can be that Bush is lying to the country about the Social Security "crisis."

13. Rove is only one man. The right wing has a whole team working
on their strategies, both short and long term. There are many high powered players here who funded with loads of corporate elite cash.

16. True. But Rove has spoken and written many times of his dream
to make the republican party the majority party for the next several generations. Some people consider him obsessed with the idea. He also controls Bush much more than the other republican strategists do. He chose to put the issue of privatizing Social Security on the front burner, not the other republican strategists.

17. Putting everything evil about BushCo on to one man undermines
the creditability of the claim.

Yes Rove has talked about his one party dream, but so has Nordquist, Gringrich, Scaife, Feith, Perry, and so on and so on. There are hundreds of high powered people all working together here. Rove is just one small very little part of the whole package of BFEE.

21. None of those people has been talking for the last eight years
about using George W. Bush to accomplish the goal. Rove has. And none of those people has been briefing nearly every federal department and agency on polling results on Bush and the issues affected by the actions and decisions of those departments and agencies during the last four years. Rove has. And Bush doesn't ask any of those people what issues he should talk about and what he should say about them. He does ask Rove. Everyday, several times a day.

The Times Foundation also presented a special Lifetime Service Award to the Rev.Sun Myung Moon for his more than 30 years of investment in America... attended with his wife, Hak Ja Han Moon...praised for his commitment and vision in starting many humanitarian organizations, as well as his leadership and courage in speaking out about social and family problems.

"Mediocrity never inspires any great hatred or enmity," longtime community activist Robert L. Woodson Sr. said in introducing the 81-year-old Korean evangelist, who recently finished a 52-day, 52-city speaking tour. "It´s only when you find your target do people shoot at you, Mr. Moon," Mr. Woodson said.

Rev. Moon gave the keynote address, in which he challenged both U.S. and world leaders to work harder to end divorce, promiscuity, human-rights violations, misuse of public money, racism and religious strife.
