I know a lot of people are saying that we should use our filibuster against Gonzales or Rice, or any range of other issues. But here's the thing.
We get to do it once.
Normally, we could filibuster as many times as we want, but with the slimy GOP that now occupies the senate, after one fillibuster, they will shut it down, and we will NEVER be able to filibuster again as long as the gop is in power.
The key is to use it so as to turn it into a platform to gain seats in the 2006 midterms. If we use it foolishly, the public will support the republicans and view us as obstructionists. Played right, we make the republicans look like tyrants.
For now, hold the lines, and make sure every dem senator votes in one block on major issues until our one and only filibuster is used.

2. Which judges to you think deserve filibustering? |

If Buschco elevates a current sitting member of the SCOUTS to chief justice then it will be hard stop it based on technical merit since doing so would be a tough sell and mean that those who voted to put that justice there originally were in error.
Additionally given the stink about pandering to pro-lifers to you really think people like Reid would organize such a thing for that purpose?

3. ? the only threat is on Judges - and there is no free first use |
|
on all other Senate activity the filibuster can not be stopped for the next 2 years.
On judges they threaten a ruling from the chair - but we counter that if they do that, it will be the last piece of Senate activity that gets to a vote.
They can force the judges - but at the cost of every other piece of legislation.
