ABC News: Sen. Boxer Steps Into Spotlight, Blogs Pick Her for President
snip>
Maybe she's becoming a spokeswoman, or even a symbol, for voters who oppose the Iraq war or feel shut out by the Bush administration. Maybe, with the Democratic Party at sea after November's election losses, some people sense a leadership void and are looking to her to fill it.

Maybe it's not that Boxer's gotten louder but that other Democrats can barely be heard at all. At least, that's what some of her supporters are saying.

Whatever the explanation, Boxer, 64, has never been more in the spotlight. At a time when Republican dominance of Washington politics is nearly complete, a Marin County liberal who drives a hybrid car and opposes almost everything the GOP does has become a newly prominent face of the Democratic Party.
...
...Feinstein has been the more prominent....
Republicans say they can work with Feinstein. Her advice and endorsement are courted by Schwarzenegger and others on issues while Boxer, whom they generally despise, is left on the sidelines.

The writer calls Nelson's remark re: Boxer "diplomatic", but he's exactly right when he says, "You don't get a center if you don't get a left or right."

1. Bravo - thanks for the Post!!!
"Fond of gold jewelry and colorful, occasionally mismatched outfits, she's energetic and aggressive, given to dressing down government officials at hearings, especially when reporters are within earshot."

Pot-shots typical of ass-hole reporters.

"Democrats are so afraid of being criticized, or so afraid that they'll be accused of being too liberal, that they don't really act with the courage of their convictions. And then comes Barbara Boxer," says Madeleine Begun Kane, a writer from Queens, N.Y., who created a "President Boxer" blog. "She's been a shining light during an otherwise very depressing period."

The message that needs to get out to all the elected Democrats!!

"In winning her third Senate term in November, Boxer was the nation's third-highest vote-getter, behind only Bush and Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry. She squashed Republican opponent Bill Jones by 20 percentage points, scoring a bigger share of the electorate than Dianne Feinstein, the state's other Democratic senator, got in her last election. "

Convictions get you votes!!!

4. When the democrats (men that is)
get some gonads and go after bush like she did we will all be better off. The democrats are pretending that they are dealing with a sane people and they are not. It is business as usual for them, polite decent discourse.. Repukes don't play that way. When will they ever learn???

6. Me think
She got brains and a very big heart. She stood up for the voters on Jan6th. She stood up for Americans values on Condi hearing. She did her work and use facts.

I think the world will welcome her as President. A tough one, yeah she wont pull her punches on issue, but hey as long as she talking facts and working to make the world a better place, who cares if she box someone senseless.

7. the more the right dispises her, the more I am sure she is doing the
correct thing. The right is radical and out of control. They are destroying the country. I am sorry the swing voters don't see that.

8. Barbara is left on the sidelines
by the righties. Boo-hoo, how tragic. I'd wear it as a badge of honor. As the beginning of the article states, the mainstream Dem Party is "barely heard." That's what "going along" gets you: invisibility. We need attention paid to our cause and our values. Barbara knows how to get it, but even some Dems don't like that.
