1. Funny how they say
in the article that the admin has refused sending more troops as if the admin were not tied to these guys. Also, I noticed that Gen. Barry R. McCaffrey signed the letter. Isn't he one of the military commentators on MSNBC?

2. Yes n/t
It's amazing; if we start withdrawing our troops that nice paycheck he gets will disappear if there aren't ant troop deployments to explain

The letter was chilling

4. check this out on McCaffrey
http://gamesdomain.yahoo.com/article/60506

<snip>
Atari announced that it has retained General Barry McCaffrey, USA (Ret.) to offer his feedback and direction on the upcoming Act of War: Direct Action. Written by former U.S. Air Force captain and The New York Times best-selling author Dale Brown, Act of War: Direct Action is a PC military strategy game based upon a fictional near-future terrorist attack on U.S. Soil. Using the newly formed "Talon Task Force", players will need to recruit combat units, develop technologies, manage finite resources, and deploy their forces against the terror network.

"The subtleties of the game are as important as the game play itself, and we were looking for an expert who could provide both a military and counter- terrorist perspective, and we have certainly received that with General McCaffrey," said Erik Gerson, senior vice president of Marketing for Atari. "Act of War: Direct Action mirrors the changing mission of today's military from one of traditional warfare to that of state-sponsored terrorism, and having been at the forefront of both, General McCaffrey brings an unparallel knowledge base to our development team."

7. I was *really* disappointed to see McCaffrey's name as a signatory
I realize the soldiers are overburdened. But I wish he was signing his name to letters urging the administration to get a plan for unburdening them, rather than this letter urging them to increase the numbers. Give BushCo a bigger stick, and they'll just find more ways to use it; I think they'll keep them as overstretched as they are now, in a broader range of invasions.

In addition, it looks like they're calling for more billets, and that impacts poor people disproportionately. I'm very concerned with that, and yet a draft isn't the answer either.

The answer is diplomacy and hanging on until we get some sanity back in the White House. It's gonna be a long four years. :(

8. Deja Vue all over again?
....The troop increase imo is reminiscent of the weeks prior to JFK's demise....If I recall correctly he had indicated a negative response to the VN troop increment increase proposed by the Pentagon AND CIA....LBJ signed off on the order w/i weeks of ascendency to the Commander-In-Chiefs role.....

12. A draft is EXACTLY what is implied.
Let's see how many Bushbots offer their
sons and daughters up for the slaughter...
Freepers go first.
Right wing Christians too.
After all, it is THEIR "holy war" as in
they believe that it is a "just war."
Doing the will of "GAWD"and all.
Well, I say to them,
"Walk your talk. Enlist your sons and daughters."
