you need look at who pays russert. What other interests does him employer have? Under what circumstances would the man that pays russert go against his own self interests. (In this case the "man" refers to General Electric)

McManus was exposed by Eric Boehlert in a salon.com exclusive. Howard Kurtz named Maggie Gallagher, and USA Today outed Armstrong Williams. I could be wrong but I believe reporters are filing FOIA requests in order to find "journalists" with government contracts.

That's why the fish are so small. It's very unlikely that anyone already employed by big media corps for big bucks would need to do anything so transparent. Their marching orders come from the top, whose legal teams can obscure any connections between payment made and product delivered.
