The Iraqi Elections Were A Resounding Success |
|
Get ready for the deluge of headlines trumpeting this or some variation of it.
If the polling ends with only the attacks that have happened thus far, our puking media will laud bushco and the triumph of democracy without ever examining or questioning the elections. Let me hasten to add that I'm certainly not wishing for anymore loss of life, but I don't see how these elections can be seen as anything but a cynical sham. No independent monitoring, no real reporting, lack of Sunni participation, and the threat of violence, even if not fully actualized, render this election invalid.

that the Kurds and Shiites voted to get more power and the Sunnis refused to vote to loose power. There is no such thing as the average Iraqi! The Media and the general American public do not understand this culture at all! Regional autonomy would have been the way to go. This election will change nothing. The war continues.

|
...... At 5:30 this morning MSNBC showed pictures that the whole thing is a joke. Deserted towns, rockets hit the U.S. Embassy, empty polling stations, and many attacks through out the country. I expect the media to declare the elections perfect. Just like the one that happen here last November.
Wyoming 106% turn out of registered voters or the Iraqi voter turn out ...... both shams.

And by the way, all the pics of "Happy Voting Iraqis" are from Kurdistan (other than the ones in the USA, most of whom have never set foot in Iraq).
The Kurds are happy. There's a surprise. Now how 'bout the other 85% of Iraq? Oh wait, they're being blown up right now. Success!
Cali I don't think US msm will get away with such headlines for more than a couple days; already the world media is reporting more along the lines of a "resounding failure". And of course the violance will continue as Iraqis fight their occupiers.

this election is to pick a group of people to rewrite the Iraqi Constitution. Big fat hairy deal; not going to change a damn thing other than probably make the situ worse, and even bushCartel and the US state media won't be able to cover that up for long.

It might be smart to wait until the lies have been told and debunked to start critiquing the * admin on this one. If it is a good enough election to get American troops out, it is good enough.
On the other side, this admin will lie to overhype it, and expose themselves to critique for lying, even if -- objectively -- the election is a success inproviding a base to declare victory and get out.

15. Remember just a few short years ago when ANY deaths from a |
|
suicide bombing were BIG BREAKING NEWS? Now they have an election where as many people were killed so far as would be in a moderate sized plane crash and it is billed as some sort of resounding success.
I also noticed that they are separating the people killed in mortar attacks from those killed in suicide bombings, as if this made the people less dead or they had a different quality of death experience.
Remember too, the people dancing and chanting and voting for Saddam with their own blood and the stores that sold nothing but Hussien's portraits. These folks aren't voting, they are trying to figure the course of conduct they should follow to minimize their chance of being killed or imprisoned, just as they have for years. Frankly, if someone pulled up in front of my house in a tank and told me I should go vote, I would give the idea serious consideration.
The fact that this charade is being done in the name of "democracy" makes me want to puke.

The only "resounding success" that can come from this election is the promised (and backtracked on) reduction in "insurgent" activity.
If people keep dying at the same rate as before the election, the "success" bullshit will be a damn hard sell to the rank and file.

... call me a flaming optimist, but the media can declare victory all they want - people still hear the news.
If the death toll continues unabated (which unfortunately is what I think will happen) the whore news people simply undermine their own credibility every time they spin.
I know, we've been waiting a long time for people to figure this out, but I think the noise machine is in for a serious comeuppance in the coming year or two. I think there will be a point when Americans start realizing what we already know about the media.
Trust me, the average American really is skeptical of the media, they've been duped by happy talk but it won't last forever.

Horrible news has been flowing in for two years. It largely falls on deaf American ears. I suspect it will take tens of thousands of US deaths to wake this country up. No number of Iraqi deaths will impress Americans. Not that they are reported anyway. Look how we slept in the early days of Vietnam.

... I'm really not much of an optimist :), but I don't believe in eternal doom either.
It's not the war that is going to directly change people's minds about this administration, it is the economy. And the long slow drip of casualties has already gotten a majority of Americans to conlcude the war "was not worth it".
People get a lot more interested in the truth when they are hungry.

Let's get ready for the deluge of DU headlines trumpeting this or some variation of it.
Let's face it. This election isn't magic beans and everybody knows it. That doesn't mean it can't be a good step. It's not the lack of Sunni particiapation, for instance, but what the winners choose to do about the lack of Sunni participation.
There's no reason to jump to conclusions either way before there's enough information to make a solid judgement.

37. Even more, it's being pushed as a success for the CHIMP |
|
You'd think the reason for the invasion was all about having an election -- excuse me, "spreading democracy" and "freedom" etc...
Could you imagine if they'd said from the start? "We have a plan to liberate Iraq! Our projections are that by January 2005, it'll only cost 1400 American soldiers' lives, many thousands of Iraqi's lives, $200 billion, and worldwide respect, but think of the election!!"
This, from the party who hates "nation-building?" It's amazing to see Republicans preaching humanitarianism just to prop up the Chimp's failures.
In fact, are the elections such a resounding success that the war is over? Are they such a resounding success that we should do this AGAIN in other countries? Then they're not such a resounding success.
You're completely right, this will be trumpeted not only this week, but already I'm hearing Repukes on the talk shows lauding the BushCo historical legacy over this. :puke:
Democrats have to say "it's good," because it IS good; but there's going to be no perspective whatsoever on whether this fiasco overall was good.

40. 92% of American Iraqis did NOT vote per CNN |
|
Odd how they say that 72% of Iraqis in Iraq voted, risking life and limb. But Iraqi ex-pats were a no-show by and large, at least in the U.S. Anyone know what the population of Iraq is among "eligible voters?" What sort of numbers are they claiming? Thousands? Millions? Has anyone seen any footage of LARGE crowds of voters? I haven't. Maybe this is why they set up 6000 polling places--to say that voting was so spread out that we will not see large crowds at any one place.
To me this is so sad. When I see some of the joyful faces on some of the voters shown on t.v. I think that that's how I felt last Nov. before I was enlightened about what "voting" now means--a corrupt show for the rest of the world.

I bet you think that a hijacked plane hit the Pentagon too.
Everything can be explained just by one simple fact : Bush is Evil Incarnate, the most Evil person that has ever existed, and anything to do with him is corrupt. Once you realise this, everything else falls into place. From the Stolen Election (come on, do you know *anybody* who voted for Bush?), the Fake "War on Terror", through to the Zionist Genocide against innocent Palestinians, all of the fake photos that are circulating, and of course, the CIA project that changes Internet caches and then uses the Mind Control Satellites so that we only remember what THEY want us to.
Everyone knows that Bush flew in a plastic turkey, yet now there are loads of faked pictures showing him serving real turkey to troops. As if! Everyone knows that Bush claimed Niger was supplying nuclear weapons to Saddam, yet look at the records now - the words have all been changed to what the NeoCons want them to say.
So who are you going to believe : the People's Voice as expressed in DU, or some NeoCon supposed "fact", as if "Objective Truth" had any meaning. Only the ignorant redneckas who haven't read the great works of Derrida could use such outmoded ways of thinking. ;-)
