It will either be the Alawi or Sistani slate that wins. Probably Alawi - he's like the house in blackjack.

After months, even years, of trying to prevent anything resembling democracy where we couldn't hand pick the leaders and have de facto control of the government while delaying these sham elections for this long?
I don't.

Allawi's slate will translate into a lot of seats and he will retain his power through the Presidency Council.
He's the house in blackjack.

The Council on Foreign Relations is the only place I have seen that has actually explained how the election system works: http://www.cfr.org/background/iraq_leaders.phpNo idea of results yet.

Most likely the Shi'ites won a plurality if not a majority of the seats. If the Sunnis sat out the election, then the results would be skewed towards the Shi'ites further. You'd have a government that under-represented Sunnis. Worst case scenario is Sunnis wanting to leave the Iraqi government to form a separate nation.

It probably isn't ethical to use your toes when counting in a Muslim country.
