Do we want the Iraqi Election to be a seen as a success?
Tricky question as others have acknowldged. Here's a second similar question, do you think percieved success in the Iraqi election will shorten or lengthen our involvement in Iraq? I could see it going both ways. On the one hand we could declare success and pull out--although that might lead to an invasion of Iran or Syria.

On the other hand if it is a failure we will probably continue to stay there until we accept our failure (which would be at least 5 years off, I think). It's complicated.

The simple answer is a failed Iraqi election will make Bush look bad, and therefore we should hope for a failed Iraqi election. This is not as petty as it sounds--if Bush is seen to fail, some of his political capital dissappears--and as such it makes it harder for him to actaully accomplish his goals (which I think will all agree are really really bad goals).

It's a tricky question.

1. I don't care how it's seen, as long as it IS a success

2. I want it to be seen as it really is, success or not

It seems reality doesn't matter anymore. We decide what we want the effect to be the we decide what we shall call the cause.

3. Only if it's actually a success
otherwise, no, I don't want false reports like the toppling of Sadaam's statue. I bought that footage when it was shown, hook line and sinker. Beyond pissed when I found out the truth.

4. Doesn't matter, Bush has already declared it a success.
Could have been the most monumental failure since Custer's last stand, and they would have still called it a success. Those who believe his shit will believe the successful-election story as well, end of discussion.

It's quite easy to be successful when you never define your goals and no one really knows what constitutes failure or success.

8. That's certainly true
But we can worry about more than one thing at a time--certainly the invasion was an illegal and a stupid mistake--but we also need to figure out what we should do now that we are there

7. I hope they are a success, invading a country killing thousands of
of their people destroying years of culture and history was bad enough, it doesn't matter how it turns out though because it will be a success in *s books no matter what.
