I can think of two:

This is not the main thing that makes me disagree with Ann, but it is still a pretty big mistake. There is a distinct difference between giving some mateial support and sending troops. If some Canadian nationals volunteered to serve in the U.S. military (and I am aware that they did), that is not the same as the government sending troops.

Two things about this make me happy:

1. She is so damn smug and was so wrong. Plus, doubting a CBC journalist makes it all the more funny.

2. If a liberal had made a mistake like this (i.e. same level of mistake, same situation) she would be on Fox News talking about how liberals just make stuff up to support their point.

But while Canada as a nation was not involved, Canadians themselves formed the largest foreign contingent in the U.S. military during the Vietnam era. Some estimate that their numbers far suppressed the more than 30,000 Americans draft dodgers who fled to Canada to avoid military service during the war. While exact numbers are impossible to obtain, from my work as a military historian with the Canadian War Museum, I estimate that of the many thousands who served in the U.S. Vietnam-era military, some 12,00 Canadians actually served in Vietnam itself.

Not only was Canada in WWII and Korea but also in WWI. In fact Canada was fighting in both World Wars before the US got involved.

The crazy, clueless hag seems to forget that it was the CANADIANS who smuggled out five of the 444 Americans who were held hostage in the U.S. Embassy in Tehran back in 1979, gave them fake Canadian passports, disguises and airline tickets, and escorted them to the plane that brought them back to the U.S. One of those hostages, Richard Queen, was gravely ill with (if I remember correctly) multiple sclerosis. A brave, selfless act for which I, for one, will be eternally grateful.

When foreign nationals put their own lives on the line to save American lives, I'd say they were pretty damned good friends.
