The Edwards is inexperienced meme |
|
Edited on Wed Jan-21-04 11:35 AM by Bleachers7
I have seen this bouncing around. I half agree. Do you think he is inexperienced? How can he handle complicated foreign policy? What FP experience does he have (besides hiring Shelton)? What happened to Edwards in Vietnam?

1. no more inexperienced in FP |
|
than Clark is domestically, actually they would compliment each other well in the GE. Don't like the Shelton thing myself, but don't really like Lehane as our front man either.

7. Clark Was Rsponsible For The Welfare Of MANY Thousands As Commander |
|
Edited on Wed Jan-21-04 11:48 AM by cryingshame
He essentially GOVERNED as base commander here and in Europe.
It was his responsibilty to get pot holes fixed, Educate the children of the troops and provide all with adequate Healthcare.
He was also responsible for GETTING THE MONEY OUT OF CONGRESS TO DO THIS.
He improved Race Relations and addressed issues like Spousal Abuse.
That Clark has no Domestic Experience is bullshit and I am appalled that a Clark supporter would post such a thing.

2. how much experience did w. have |
|
in 2000? governor (a pretty impotent office by design of tx constitution) of a big state?
edwards is on the foreign relations committee, isn't he? or is it the senate intelligence committee?
is experience as relevant as intelligence, compassion, and making the country better for all citizens? if it is, then he (and he's not the only one) beats bush hands down.

4. Hi, colonel! Welcome to DU |
|
:hi:
My only contention with what you said is that Bush has made a mess of Texas and of the nation. I don't think it's inexperience on his part as much as it is grand design of many.
Welcome to DU. :toast:

5. draft ended just as edwards reached 18 |
|
so he got lucky. there is no way he could have got out of it if he was drafted since they didn't have the money to pull strings like that.

6. 20 years managing a successful business is as good as other experience |
|
such as a distinguished military career. Those 20 years complement his Senate service on important committees really well. Of course it would be best to have lots of all types of experience, but I'm not ruling out Clark for not having any service as an elected official, nor Dean for having no Washington experience, so I am not sure why others would hold it against JRE.
The most relevant experience is experience as a President. Bush has 3 years of that. Does that make him the best qualified?
I honestly think that this meme would have absolutely no traction if his hair were as gray and his face as lined as that of most 50 year olds. I am serious. He is a victim of good genes and probably taking good care of himself.

look at BUSH. He couldn't even name the President of Pakistan in 2000. He was a 1 1/2 term LOUSY governor (I should know living in Texas) and look what a good little puppet he is now.
Edwards not only has more experience in dealing with PUBLIC PROBLEMS, unlike Bush, but as Senator, he is on the intelligence select committee. He would do great with diplomacy--something we desperately need in this country.
I heard Trent Lott dog him last night about this issue and all it shows is that they are scared of the message Edwards inspires in people.
God I'm so sick of this excuse to exclude him.

10. my friend who is in with the DLC crowd said yesterday |

he was quite surprised by the Iowa results and "I'll bet they are a little more worried in the White House now." Looks as if he's right.

11. Two things: (1) Lincoln. Best wartime president ever? He held the country |
|
together with what? The skills of a lawyer to persuade America that his idea for America was the best.
(2) How a guy can go from zero to being at the top of his profession with little more than working his ass off every day and then get to the point is that he's at today and have to convince people he's experienced is beffudling.
He's been in the trenches. He's in the trenches we've all been in -- having what appears to be little opportunity and then getting everything you ever earned by working for it.

as someone who has lived in the south all my life I see him doing well here. Southern voters are not swayed from their views easily unless they have a reason. John Edwards gives them reason.
People who don't live here have NO IDEA how tough it is going to be in beating Bush here. The Democrats have GOT to have a damn good candidate who not only can beat Bush, but get us out this mess he has put our country in over the last 3 years.
I'm still undecided 'cause I like a couple other candidates as well, however, Edwards is showing to be a very viable and intense candidate.

13. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence |
|
As a member of the Select Committee on Intelligence, Senator Edwards has worked tirelessly for a strong national defense and to strengthen the security of our homeland. He has authored key pieces of legislation on cyber, bio, and port security.
Also, one of his best lines from his stump speech is, "Some people think real world experience is a good thing. What do you think?"
