Let's make a list of things Dean hates |
|
Republians
Republican-light Democrats
The media
Help me out. What else does Dean hate? So much anger. Let's hope he doesn't go to the dark side.

But sooner or later you need to have something more positive to sustain a movement. Che had that, and he believed in something besides hating the Cuban dictator he overthrew. Have you seen my sig line quote from Che about compassion? I've never heard Dean say anything so hopeful and positive.

|
you haven't been listening. I think it's time for all Americans to have health care like the citizens of every other industrialized nation...even Costa Rican's have health care, and we should too.
I love Che and I love Howard Dean. I don't know anything about lots of things but don't go posting that I haven't heard about it...you having heard about it is not a rational criteria since you haven't been following what he has to say as proven by your statement.
If you do want to learn about his ideas I would start with democracyforamerica.com

because the last thing Dean said when asked why he should be chair, was "I love this stuff".
And that was what always struck me about Dean - He always has that big smile like he really enjoys participating in it all. Like a fish in water, he is in his element. It is what fuels him.

49. You want something more positive from Dean, read his Jan. 11, 2005 speech |
|
when he announces his formal entry into the DNC Chair race January 11, 2005 http://www.blogforamerica.com/archives/005781.htmlAs St. Augustine said, "Hope has two beautiful daughters, anger and courage. Anger at the way things are and the courage to change them." Dean's hope certainly fits this activist definition.

|
First you state anger is bad. Then in a reply to my post you state anger is good if it leads somewhere. Then again you say anger is bad. Make up your mind.
If anger leads to hate and hate leads to suffering, how can any anger be good?
Yet you tried to justify the revolution as 'good' anger, did you not?
Seems to me, you're confused. :-/

|
to understand what I was writing, beyond just look for something you can attack, then I'll restate what I typed. I said anger can spur people to action, but it cannot sustain a movement. I'm pretty consistent about that. Dean should have dropped the anger act a while ago. Over time it becomes destructive if you don't have something deeper to replace it.

31. But then you quote Yoda.......... |
|
I haven't seen any of the Star Wars movies in a long time, however if I remember Yoda the character opposed anger. Wasn't Luke angry and wanted to act out on that anger? Wouldn't it be logical to assume that Yoda would be against any form of anger, even if it empowered?
Yea, you're still confused. But it's cool, I understand! ;)

44. It's not about Dean, it's about your refusal to accept your contradiction. |
|
You can't state anger is bad, then good, then bad again. It just doesn't work that way. Your quote implies that all anger leads to suffering, but you clearly stated in one post that anger could be a good thing. So which is it?
How do you know Dean's anger isn't empowering people? You don't have to like Dean to understand that his anger set off a mini-revolution within the Democratic Party during the 2004 Primaries.
Dean has been credited with being the first candidate of the 2004 Primaries to actually use grass-roots activism to get his message out. Remember, early on he was a little known governor from Vermont with a small, but loyal following. It wasn't until those small groups began tipping people off about about Dean's that his message grew. Soon that small group turned into a large collection of both independents, Democrats, and Republicans.
Dean was also the first candidate to use the blog for his campaign. That was something adopted by other candidates after they realized how beneficial it was to the Dean campaign.
Then there was internet fundraising. While it had been done in the past, never before had a candidate used it to his benefit like Dean had. In fact, Dean had the most money coming in from the grass-roots level thanks to the internet fundraising.
Of course there was the whole Iraq issue. Before Dean spoke up you had Kerry, Lieberman, Edwards and Gephardt going around beefing up the war and its resolution.
Dean may not be a guy you like, and that's totally fine. However his anger sparked something, it empowered.
Ultimately he may have lost, however what he did in 2004 has many implications in today's world. He's empowered MANY people, not just at the national level but at the local level as well.
And as we all know, politics starts in your local communities. That to me, is a good anger.
I'm sorry you don't agree.

Too bad. Dem lites etc. now have their panties in a ruffle. OMG! Gov. Dean has passion. I think that it is self evident that * is totally out of control. He steals elections, he gets people killed and maimed, and he invades countries for the flimsiest of reasons.
I hate violence, I hate public criminals, I hate the betrayal of this country.

|
Edited on Mon Jan-31-05 01:07 PM by Radical Activist
got almost no response. I posted the reasons why I felt Fowler actually better met the criteria Dean and most of his supporters list for a good DNC Chair. That Fowler actually better fits that description and is better qualified to do the things Dean will supposedly do. Almost no one responded to that. I guess bickering and "four legs good, two legs bad" chanting is easier than thinking of a logical statement.

Because the "hate" comment was part of his prepared speech all the DNC Chair hopefuls gave to start the event before Q&A, which suggests he consciously put it in his opening statement and wasn't something he blurted out without considering the ramifications.
