terror. He's the best friend terrorists ever had.

Keep reminding the rightwing pundits that George Bush is on the record as saying he supports civil unions. If they want to call Dean a far lefty because of signing a civil unions bill, bombard them with Bush's words.

46. The greatest trick the right wing media ever pulled...
...was convincing Americans it didn't exist.

Just the other day I happened to hear O'Reilly mention a poll that showed that the majority of reporters were liberal. He's obscuring the point completely.

Even if all the reporters are liberal, what about the editors or owners they work for? guys like Rupert Murdoch or Richard Mellon Scaife? THEY'RE the ones that run the show, not the reporters.

It's like saying apartheid-era South Africa was predominantly controlled by black people just because black people constituted the vast majority of the population. We know that was definitely NOT the case.

85. Remember how they targeted Dean during the campaign
doing and saying and insinuating EVERYTHING they could to mind-fuck Democrats into thinking Dean would be death.

Remember how kkkarl rove used reverse psychology on us during that one Dean rally for which he personally turned out. Remember how he was out on the sidewalk with the rally people, shouting - YEAH! DEAN! - VERY likely to manipulate people's thinking and fears. He WANTED us to think - "uh-oh - if rove wants him, that must mean he's toast already. They're playing with our heads. rove wants him because rove knows they can beat him - easier mark for his own schmuck to take down." Yeah, riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

He WANTED us to think that. It's probably in the talking points being blast-faxed to every wrong-winger within farting distance of some microphone. Mind-fuck 'em on Dean. So....... we gonna take THEIR advice, or follow our own gut for a change? Should we REALLY let THE ENEMY (and make NO mistake - they ARE the ENEMY) advise us what to do? PLEASE consider: if YOU were scheming to mind-fuck THEM, what would YOU be doing at the moment?

I am a town committee chair. Just received from Phil Johnson:

I am confident that Howard will be elected on Feb. 12 with the support of 8 of the 9 Mass. DNC members. Thank you for all that you do for the Democratic Party!

33. Kennedy blesses Dean
http://news.bostonherald.com/politics/view.bg?articleid=66196

Bay State's workhorse still at it
Ted-led Bay State taps Dean for DNC
Boston Herald, MA - 31 minutes ago
By Ann E. Donlan
Tuesday, February 1, 2005

State party leaders - including Massachusetts Democrats with the blessing of Sen. Edward M. Kennedy - are backing Howard Dean to chair the Democratic National Committee, giving him an edge to win the election in two weeks.

Bay State party Chairman Philip Johnston said yesterday, ``I make up my own mind about these things, but certainly Sen. Kennedy has a great amount of influence on me.''

The former Vermont governor and presidential candidate's grassroots style would lend more support to state party committees, meaning the national committee would pump cash into campaigns for Bay State Democrats.

``In my four years as state chairman, I haven't received one dime from the national party,'' said Johnston, who also credits Dean with the ability to attract younger voters into the party's ranks.

Johnston said Sen. John F. Kerry is aware of his support for his former presidential primary foe, adding that Dean has ``publicly stated repeatedly that he will not run for president in '08 if he is chairman of the party.''

Johnston picked Dean over six other contenders, including former U.S. Reps. Martin Frost of Texas and Timothy J. Roemer of Indiana. Dean rival Wellington Webb, former mayor of Denver, dropped out and is now backing Dean.

The Association of State Democratic Chairs also endorsed Dean.

making him DNC chair. They are still afraid of Dean running
for president. Now why would the repugs be criticizing his
nomination to any position, unless, it is bad for THEM?

I am not afraid to say that our party made a huge blunder in
nominating Kerry over Dean. As soon as the swifties came out
with their ads, Kerry was dead in the water. Dean had no such
baloons to be pin pricked.

52. Dean said before he entered the DNC Chair race that the Dem Party is a
mess and the state the Party is in, he didn't think any Dem would win the Prez battle in 2008 if the Party was not reformed from the grassroots up. He also said that if the Party was still a mess in 2 years he wouldn't run for Prez, even if he wasn't DNC Chair.

And in regards to Kerry trying again, well, I'm sure he'll squander the $10 million he has left over, just like he did the $2-3 million he started the 2004 Primary race with. Kerry has no charisma and he lost to Dimson when he should have defeated him.

I get the sense that most here are observers of political events, posting thoughts but doing little else. With respect to the DNC chair, have you personally contacted your state members of the DNC and/or your "super delegates" (representatives and senators)?

How many members are actively involved in your local party committee, or groups such as

PROGRESSIVES DEMOCRATS of AMERICA - http://capwiz.com/pdamerica/home/

DEMOCRACY FOR AMERICA - http://www.democracyforamerica.com/

DEMOCRATIC CONGRESSIONAL CAMPAIGN COMMITTEE - http://www.dccc.org/

or even do something as simple as call in to CSPAN Journal?

58. Thanks for the links, but...
Your assumptions couldn't be more erroneous. The majority of people here on DU are extremely active in local, state and national politics, and many worked for one of the local or national campaigns in the last 2 elections cycles, if not their entire lives.

Not to mention that DU itself acts as an activist clearing house for myriads of letter writing campaigns, phone call campaigns, organizing protests and other political gatherings, and related activities. We have a whole forum on progressive living and another whole forum on organizing political actions.

So, please give credit where it's due. Most of us on DU man our keyboards, phones, faxes and even our streets and neighborhoods on a regular basis.

59. And labor (AFL-CIO) has decided not to endorse anyone
Frost had really hoped for labor's endorsement, but it appears they aren't taking sides as a big group.

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=536&ncid=536&e=6&u=/ap/20050201/ap_on_re_us/democrats_chair

<snip>AFL-CIO leaders decided Tuesday not to make an endorsement in the race for Democratic National Committee (news - web sites) chairman, a move that could make it harder for any of Howard Dean (news - web sites)'s rivals to stop his push for the party leadership.

"The AFL-CIO political committee decided Tuesday not to make an endorsement for DNC chair," said Christy Setzer, a spokeswoman for the labor group.<snip>

71. I never took my "Dean for America" lawn sign down and I never put up
a Kerry/Edwards sign.

Go Dean!

73. That isn't something to be proud of. Dean endorsed Kerry.

And BTW, I supported Dean for chair so consider that before you flame me. I just think boasting about lack of support for our nominee is inappropriate.

75. After Dean dropped out of the Primary, I turned ABB
I voted for Kerry but refused to donate $ and time to his campaign and I'm very glad that I made that decision.

76. Again, nothing to be proud of. A little more time and effort from
some ABBers and we might not be where we are . Thank god I know I did everything I could for our nominee.

77. I'm with you saracat
if theres one thing the party doesn't need its people picking and choosing which leaders within the party they will support. Support ideas as they come, but accept leaders within the party. Think how many people disagree with Dean, and imagine they all do their own thing and refuse to follow his direction if he becomes chair. Its thinking like that that has splintered this party and weakened us.

I have reservations about Dean as chair, but if he wins you damn well better believe i'll support his efforts.

Kerry got my vote, but that is the LAST TIME I buy into the ABB style rallying call.

78. And you wonder why some Dean supporters are considered whackos..
You PROUDLY refused to get off your ass and support the candidate running against Bush. That's brilliant.

Really.

Tell me something, how many toes did you have left after you finished shooting yourself in the foot a couple dozen times?

Only one of Iowa's 9 votes are committed to Dean.

What the hell is wrong with these people?

Oh, if only I were on the DNC Committee!!

You'd have my vote Dr. Dean!!

"Why Not the Best?"
The Coroporate Media Shills will try to marginalize him, but, you know what? As DNC Chair-you'll HAVE to have him on the talk shows.

A DR. as our leader in the midst of this Social Security/Healthcare Bullshit Barrage:puke:

I'll Take It!:bounce:

84. Mix it up, Baby!
This is EXACTLY what the Dem party and the nation need! I am so "siked." Was not for Dean initially (Kucinich was my man! Then Edwards, cuz I thought he could win; I subscribe to the Southern-intellectual-liberal-as-vote-getter theory, in the likeness of Carter, Clinton.)

Anyway, it says a lot to me that the Dems are willing to go outside the box, grassroots, progressive (neo-liberal?) in their approach to leadership and winning elections; they see and acknowledge this constitutency. It shows the party's currency and relevance. Dean is able to articulate that intersection of the red states' interests (affordable health care, good schools for our kids, healthy environment) with more traditional "liberal" values (pro-choice, progressive taxation, anti-war).

I'm very energized by this - I KNEW (hoped) something positive would come out of the 2004 Pres election fiasco - this is IT!! I hope this Dean win can grab the headlines away from Bush's State of the Union tonight.

Also, BTW, I am a newly appointed PCO (precinct committee organizer) for the Dem party in my area. What a great time for me, a nonconformist curmudgeon, to join the party!
