Okay this is too funny! Why do we not have Abstinence only classes again?
BECAUSE THEY DO NOT WORK!

*snip*

Despite taking courses emphasizing abstinence-only themes, teenagers in 29 high schools became increasingly sexually active, mirroring the overall state trends, according to the study conducted by researchers at Texas A&M University

But while it is funny, it is sad that those kids who got active have had their lives put at risk because of some stupid "moral value" that puts ignorance above saving lives.

sex...

2. Thankfully, my sex-education class taught sex safe.
Of course, with my sex life the way it is, they may have well taught absitinence-only.

4. Abstinence does not work! Never did. And never will . . .

.
It's all about religion. Some proselytizing their religious beliefs upon others. However, those very religious tenets do not work in their own culture! And, here's the facts on it . . . note which states are which . . . the Bible Belt States are red and look at their statistics:

Absolutely "NO!" Abstinence does not work! Never did. And never will.

7. Yes, it is . . . and there's more . . .

.
Yes, "sex is common in the South" (using your words). . . and there's more . . .

1.) The Bible Belt has more out-of-wedlock births than any other area of the country.

2.) The Bible Belt has more teen pregnancies and births than any other area of the country.

3.) The Bible Belt has the highest divorce rate in the entire country.

4.) The Bible Belt has the highest incidents of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) than any other area of the country.

Now. Think about it. This is the culture of ignorance "borne" within their religious proselytizing that The Bible Belt (read: "Christian" rightwingnuts) want to push in law upon the rest of us!! Tis no wonder that the entire world is -- if not perplexed then -- laughing at America and its twisted politics and religion-into-law crap.

In addition, such abstinence-only "teaching" is sans information about condoms and safe-sex thereby causing sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and potential death and debilitation!

Talk about utter insanity pushed and proselytized upon all of our youth in America.

Blame GWBush as he pushes "faith-based initiatives" which is the driving force behind much of this deadly misinformation and ignorance as government policy.

edited for spelling error.

8. Wonder how many of these red-state teen moms have the
father and grandfather listed with the same name on their child's birth certificate . . .

9. actually it would be interesting to see
the sums of birth and abortions for states. I think the main difference is that abortion is so rare in many of those states with high rates.

13. remember a while back
when some repub senator said that "America needs to bring back the concept of shame". Don't remember who said it, but that seems to be the real underlying motive, not stopping disease or teen pregnancy.

17. Fact #1: Teenagers have been having sex since time immemorial . . .
Fact #2: Teenagers are not going to stop having sex because the government tells them not to . . .

that is all . . .

18. Well, duh.
Talk about sex and it only whets the appetite to experiment.

This is such an old argument I can't even believe some think we should still be having it.
