Overtime is Going Away - Are you "angry about it"...or not?

This why we need "change"...who looks out for us? Our candidates should have the "passion" on these issues.

Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao yesterday denied a public request by Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) to delay until September the department's business-backed plan to overhaul overtime rules.
...
Specter, chairman of the Appropriations subcommittee on labor, who called the hearing to provide what he had called a full airing of the issue, asked Chao to remain in the hearing room while experts debated how many workers could lose overtime pay because of the regulations. But Chao left after testifying.

In an interview after the hearing, Specter said he could do little to stop the Bush administration from implementing the changes, which he criticized at the hearing as endangering workers' overtime earnings and further complicating already-complex employment laws.
...
Employer groups applauded Chao's decision to push ahead with the revisions. "It's a very favorable sign for employers," said employment lawyer Camille A. Olson. "She refused to delay the implementation."

2. Well, I get to keep my guns. . .
and foreigners fear me, and gays can't get married, and we're going to Mars, so I guess it's o.k. if I lose my overtime.

5. Explain this to me
I do not know much of anything on this matter but have heard minimal things about it.

The way I understand it is that the employee (me) can elect to either get paid overtime or get comp time (additional vacation) instead. Is this the deal or is it something totally different?

7. That's not quite right
It's the employER, not the employEE, who gets to choose between comp time and overtime. In addition, overtime will be eliminated completely for millions

8. it's another media "no story"...instead we get TV jurys and reality
shows...the danger is the corporate owned media.

This bill is for corporations.

6. Well let me tell you,
I'm a nurse (an RN) and this rule would affect LPNs. This will be taxing to an already growing problem in nursing. They can't even find enough staffing as it is. No nurse will want to work overtime without the extra pay. They will leave the field and it won't attract many new ones either. Same for EMTs and firefighters or policemen.

9. Good old labor secretary Chao...
looking out for the LABORERS by cutting fuckin' overtime pay.

I kind of hope Gephardt organizes something up, now that he doesn't have anything else to lose -- this would be a great way to spend his time, nailing overtime pay annihilation to the ground.

Democratic Adminstration....unions are getting wiped out, who clearly made the middle class. Jobs going overseas and bringing in immigrant work program for 3 years to keep the wages low.

Now this latest stunt killing overtime for working famlies that are struggling now, this is what needs to be made a important issue to all candidates, working families are hurting and need help!!!

15. Hi Desertrose
Boy you said it friend...it's unbelievable!
Last night's state of the union was so catering to the right wing very conservative positions and not the American people at all.

The American people, who are disgruntle republicans, democrats of all kinds and independents need to vote for whoever wins this nomination so we can remove the scariest regime we ever had in our history of politics.

I love your sig and that picture of Dennis is wonderful!

Looking into this forum, the emotions are mixed, we need to be more positive on our candidates and the biggest thing here missing is our reason to discuss and express with respect...we certainly need each other in this fight.

Good seeing you dear friend! :loveya:
