Today? Tomorrow?

Nah. No complaining. I guess Kerry is the frontrunner now. Goes with the territory.

:) :) :)

1. no complaints
it's what this is all about. although he isn't the front runner. dean still leads in new hampshire and in some polls clark is still second.

4. No biggie. The bash Kerry threads have been going on for 2 years now.
Not too scary to me. Funny thing about Kerry...even the worst they want to throw at him from Nixon era planted articles through Scaife, still make Kerry come out looking stronger and MORE ethical.

Heheh.

6. yeah, this race is gonna be even stranger than i could have imagined...
and, i'm feeling better about it because of it. things are gonna get shaken up a bit more before it's all over.

i just hope attacks to and from the front runner diminish and the attacks get more focused on bush. he sure gave the dems enough ammo in the SOTU....i mean his opening statements were in defense of the patriot act and tax cuts for the rich....and then it got worse from there!

7. Passive aggressive complaint?
Yes, it comes with the territory, but as I was just ruminating upon, there is something to keep in mind.

As a younger brother to two big brothers, I was beat up upon a lot. It was family, though. When the bully down the street started to beat me up, that was different. What could be worse? If my brother came along and helped the bully beat me up.

When one candidate attacks another candidate, that is family. When the Right Wingers attack our candidates, that is the bully down the street. If we as supporters pick up on the Right Wingers' rhetoric and use it to attack our candidates, that is like your brother helping the bully beat you up.

Kerry deserves some negative threads. Kerry (Clark, Dean, et. al.) does not deserve to have DUers use Right Wing attacks against them. We should be defending all our candidates. It is fine if WE beat up on them, because we are family. It is not fine for the bully down the street to beat up on them.

9. Oh, about the same time
one of the Kucinich supporters starts a "Why is everyone bashing Kucinich?" thread, which I don't see happening anytime soon.

Actually, it would be more appropriate to ask why the Kucinich threads have a few stalkers who have to jump in and lob gratuitous insults.

Why complain? People only bash what they do not understand. I'm looking forward to hearing Kerry and Clark in the debates talk about their positions on policy, not their opponent's sweaters.

I, for one, will not bash any candidate not mine because he may be my new President next January. Also, I have noticed the media repeating negative rhetoric about the candidates that was first mentioned on DU. I do not want to provide the media trolls with material.

18. Um, maybe you already have?
The title certainly sounds like it.

Since we are repeating history with IraqNam, we might as well go ahead and elect the parallel Lyndon Johnson. When the civil wars there begin (and it will be soon), Kerry will re-implement the draft and send more soldiers over, because "we can't afford to lose".

I can hardly wait. I know my two teenage sons can't wait to go fight for oil.

35. I know this is "off thread"
Edited on Wed Jan-21-04 03:32 PM by 56kid
but in my more cynical moments I'd say bring back the draft. I was a conscientious objector in Vietnam. Although I was just young enough to miss the actual draft I had a lottery number, I still remember it. number 78. My father and uncles were conscientious objectors in WWII. My grandfather was a conscientious objector in WWI. I've even got relatives from the Revolutionary War who were pacifists and thus considered Tories and forced to go to Canada. Pennsylvania Dutch, Amish, Mennonites.
One thing that seemed to happen with the draft is that it focused people on what was really at stake. Do you think people would be so gung ho about war if they were more directly threatened by the possibility of actually having to be soldiers themselves??? I know this is a cynical position, but from my memory the "me" generation, the excesses of not thinking outside of one's immediate surroundings really began to kick in once the last draft ended.

49. Yeah, my lottery draft number was 15 and my college deferment was
up in 1972.

I found other ways to get out of combat, for which I am eternally glad.

It just seemed to me that perhaps the country had advanced enough not to have to have thousands of americans killed for nothing in order to decide not to do it again. I was mistaken.

Yeah. You are probably right. Bring back the draft, kill 55,000 american soldiers, and eventually we would leave IraqNam and perhaps begin some rudimentary alternative fuels programs.

Sooo disheartening that we have to repeat this insanity every few years.

31. Hmm, might have to tone that one down a little as it might violate
the new rules! :)

I do find it somewhat ironic that we are suddenly, almost unbelievably, back to where we were when Dean was initially on the rise: talking about a Kerry/Dean primary war in NH.

The more things change, ya know?

Clark and Edwards will certainly have something to say about that, but the first skirmish in the war is about to occur, roughly coinciding with the first NH poll that shows Kerry in the lead. This week could possibly make the past two days look tame (or maybe not!)

I'm very much a Clark supporter, but I tell ya - I would be more than happy to see Kerry debate Bush in the GE should he beat my guy.

It is hard to respond to some of the horribly missleading bashes without being deemed inflamatory. DU is getting to feel like 1984.

saying this these days.
