I would agree to PRIVATIZE Social Security IF
A Democrat were always in the White House. I made a killing in the stock market when Clinton was President. Since bush has been elected my Savings Bonds have outperformed my mutual funds.

1. the worst Democrat was better than the best Republican
for real economic growth - job creation as a percentage of the population, in the last 100 years.

I don't have the link handy, but I remember that JFK was the worst Democrat and Nixon was the best Republican. And JFK was in office for like 3 years.

2. Well
Yeah it's true Democrats run things better than Republicans--but this would still be a bad idea.

4. Agreed
and I would never support Privatization of SS under any circumstances, but I do so enjoy bringing President Clinton up relative to any and all issues of the current administration. Make any comparison and Clinton wins; except compared to bush he fails miserably in the mendacity department.

5. I would be more open to it if there were a built- in 'escape hatch'

As in, the market starts to tank, you can roll the market investments back into the traditional fund. Of course, if hundreds of thousands of people were to suddenly pull out, the markets would respond......

.....but that ability would only benefit the people and not the stockholders, so we can't have anything like that. /sarcasm
