Would you support Hillary in '08 if Dean asked you to? |
|
I say this because right now I don't think I could support Hillary in an '08 run. I'm not a fan of hers. She doesn't excite me and I don't think she could win a general election. That said, I'm a Dean democrat and if Dean is still the chairman and asks me to, I suppose that might be good enough. Thoughts?

1. I'm a democrat and if she is the nominee I will support her |
|
Dean will support her if she is the nominee but as party chair he won't take a stand in favor of one candidate over another.

6. Dean, as chairman, has to ask the party to support whoever gets nominated. |
|
So no. I wouldn't.
Frankly, if it was a Hillary vs. Republican ticket I would vote 3rd party.

I briefly supported Dean as an alternative to the 4 pro-war candidates and hope that he can perform a major miracle and wrest the party from the "moderates". But, I would see an endorsement of Hillary as a complete sell-out.

8. If she won the primary, I'd support her, but |
|
I don't think she could win a general election. I like her, and I think she is a very intelligent person and is the only woman I could imagin being a good American President. There are just too many people in our country who would NEVER vote for a female President, and way too many who still hate the Clintons and always will. Sad!

16. I agree with all your points |
|
As much as I like Hillary as a person she would be a 49 State Loser or damned close to it. The name Clinton on the ballot would cause record voter turnout. For the REPUBLICANS. I'd support her if she was the eventual nominee, but I would hope my party is not that short-sighted.

32. I would if she was the nominee and |
|
made it past the primaries. I don't think the country is ready for Hillary yet much less a woman president. I do like Hillary and I think it's great how she's still doing active politics and not just a Laura Bush stepford wife. I think she's really smart but I don't know if she'd make it through the primaries if she was to run because of how she's more center and right now we need someone who isn't as center as Mrs. Clinton.

If she were the '08 candidate I'd have to support her, because chances are the Republican alternative would be so odious that I wouldn't have a choice. I'm just hoping that I won't have to make that decision.

one primary candidate over another. Dean wouldn't do that.
And all of this "Hillary will run" business is just media gossip perpetrated by the right wingnuts.

13. I'd vote for her-- that's it |
|
She's way too right-wing for me to actually work for her. If she got the nod, I'd bust my @$$ on local races-- because I don't think she'd have ANY coattails.
After all of Kerry's triangulating, that's basically what happened last year. I voted for him (first time I voted for a Dem presidential candidate since 1992, btw) but I did little footwork for him.

14. I'll support our candidate |
|
Edited on Fri Feb-11-05 01:41 PM by AverageJoe
But right now I'm not sure that H.C. has much chance of being that candidate. I'm not convinced she has the necessary on-camera presence, frankly, to move people in this digital, sound-bite age. Couple that with the intense dislike the Republicans have for her, and thus the vanishingly small chance that she would draw any votes from the other side, and I find it hard to concieve of Hillary being effective as our flag bearer next time. So, I don't think she will be the candidate.
Of course, I may be wrong.
Regardless, whoever gets the nod gets my support and my vote.

15. Primary? No, General Election Yes. |
|
I hope that Hillary is not nominated as the democratic candidate. While I think that she is a great champion of liberal causes and a *very* smart lady, I believe that she is far too polarizing a personality to win in the general election. But I would vote for her if she is nominated by the democratic party.

I'll support her as soon as Edwards swings his support.. or maybe Kerry. She's not my fav by any means but I saw her briefly on something or other being interviewed and perhaps I just don't know enough about her. One thing I'll grant--to have survived Big Dog's presidency, she has to have nerves of steel.

23. I won't support her for two reasons |
|
1 I think the nomination of Hillary is a sure way to lose the election and I would have to punish us all for being so stupid
2 I think she's given up on trying to do the right thing for this country and is now only worried about what might help her chances of being elected president. Sorry, but I gotta tell it like I see it.

If she manages to demonstrate that she actually supports more progressive positions by '08, I could support her. I voted for her for Senator because I thought she was more progressive than she has proved to be.

If Russ Feingold runs in the primaries against her I will probably vote for him because I like his stances more than her stances. If Feingold does not run I will look at some of the other candidates before looking at her. If Hillary Clinton gets the Democratic nomination I will vote for her against the Republican. In the primaries Dean's support of her will not get me to vote for her. So Dean's support or lack of support will not really affect my vote in 2008. I am a Dean supporter too, but it does not matter who he supports in the primaries.

and I voted for Kerry because Dean asked us to. Once Bitten, Twice Shy comes to mind.
Hillary Clinton is not yet qualified to be president. Being a one term Senator is not what is needed in prez candidates. Richardson or Vilsack as former governors would be better fits.

and I thought the DNC chair wasn't supposed to weigh in on one prex candidate. Or maybe that's just tradition. Anyway, I just don't see that happening given where Dean is and where Hillary is at present.
