Talon news webpage shuts itself down..offline to "redesign"
http://www.talonnews.com/

The recent public focus on Talon News, while much of it malicious, has indeed brought some constructive elements to the surface. It has also brought many kind messages of support, and for that we are extremely grateful.

In order to better serve those readers across the country who enjoy Talon News content and look forward to receiving it each day, we feel compelled to reevaluate operations in order to provide the highest quality, most professional product possible.

Thus, Talon News will be offline while we redesign the web site, perform a top-to-bottom review of staff and volunteer contributors, and address future operational procedures.

We look forward to bringing an even better product to our readers in the future.

1. Translation: The money dried up faster than a Death Valley mud puddle...
...in July, as our financial backers raced to put as much distance between themselves and Jim Guckert, as quickly as possible.

3. I'd be willing to bet we don't see it again
But shutting down Talon News is small fry. We need to force GOPUSA.com to shutdown if we want to make real progress.

4. Closed for renovations. We'll reopen with new camouflage in time for
the 2006 cycle! As well as a new "reporter" with better-hidden secrets. Keep an eye out for us!

(We will, bub...we certainly will. Thank you, bloggers!)

10. 2/11/05: Talon owner: "news service will continue White House coverage"
What a difference a few days <and, oh yeah, a possible congressional investigation> can make...this is from a 2/11/05 article:

http://www.montereyherald.com/mld/montereyherald/news/nation/10880004.htm

Owner says news service will continue White House coverage

AUSTIN, Texas - (KRT) - The politically conservative owner of the online Talon News Service said Friday that his site would continue its coverage of the White House despite harsh criticism of one of his reporters.

Bobby Eberle Jr., a Houston activist and engineer who also runs the popular GOPUSA political Web site, told The Dallas Morning News that he plans to replace reporter James Guckert, who went by the name Jeff Gannon.

"We haven't stopped our operations at all," Eberle said in a telephone interview from his Houston home. "We've got four new stories up there today."

Eberle neither apologized for nor defended Guckert's actions, saying instead that the question obviously "got attention because it was coming from the right" and that he would "counsel any new reporter to just be aware of the environment that they're in."

11. Good luck finding your new reporter, Bobby-boy!
I'll bet Talon News will have a more stringent background check than the Secret Service now.

9. Bush pulled the plug but probably has ordered Andy Card to begin
laying the groundwork for a new online White House controlled "news" operation.
