To call your Senators: http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm

Ask them to vote YES for the Cantwell Amendment to keep ANWR drilling out of the budget resolution.

They only need 51 votes to open up ANWR for drilling, and right now the vote is too close to call!

1. Anwar gives the US "one year" of Oil. Even the the oil companies
are backing away...WSJ article a week ago.

Only the politicians want it for jobs.

Go to this link to fax your Senators to vote for the Cantwell/Kerry amendment to strip this amendment, which would open ANWR to oil development and environmental ruin, from the budget resolution bill.

And/or call your Senators today and tell them to support the Cantwell/Kerry Amendment . Find their numbers at this link.

12. The slide show was interesting...
Don't drill because there are so few musk ox there.

Don't drill because there are so many caribou there.

15. There is nothing contradictory about wanting to keep numbers of caribou
high and to increase the endangered musk ox herd.

10. Jobs..
that's one good reason to go ahead with the drilling.

One year of oil is a HUGE amount of oil.

3. we must stop the greedy neocons!!!
We need your help right now to stop oil drilling in the Arctic Wildlife Refuge before it's too late!

President Bush and his pro-drilling allies in Congress are using a sneaky backdoor trick to pass their controversial proposal to drill for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge by inserting it in the must-pass federal budget bill. But Sen. Maria Cantwell from Washington State has proposed an amendment to strip Arctic drilling language from the federal budget.

Click here now to keep keep the Arctic Refuge free from drilling -- Tell your Senators to vote for the Cantwell Amendment.
Then call their offices at 1-888-894-5325 to reinforce your message.
Using the budget to open the Arctic Refuge is a sneaky backdoor trick to avoid democratic debate on this critical issue. Senator Cantwell's amendment will prevent such budget trickery.

There is no time to waste; a vote on the Senate floor will take place as early as TODAY. It's very important that your Senators hear from as many constituents as possible.

A lot is riding on this decision. This incomparable wilderness is home to more than 250 animal species, including wolves, grizzlies, caribou, and millions of migrating birds. Unfortunately, it is also the target of an intense, relentless lobbying campaign by the oil industry.

We need you to help make some noise! If we can draw enough attention to this issue, we can stop oil industry allies in Congress from getting away with this attempt to slip Arctic drilling into the budget bill.

Betsy Loyless and the LCV Policy Team

7. More Links:
On John Kerry's site, you can sign his Citizens' Roll Call to protect ANWR:

http://www.johnkerry.com/petition/rollcall.php?source=5111

And if you want to make an emergency donation to the advertising/education efforts in critical states:

https://contribute.johnkerry.com/friends.html?team=5110

If you're on Barbara Boxer's mailing list, she has a petition going too, but I can't put a link to that since the link I received in e-mail, already had my personal info filled in. But if you're on her mailing list, check your inbox.

This thread should be at the top of the homepage.....

8. With peak oil and all...its only a matter of time.
We'd be better off focusing on alternatives than just fighting the inevitable.

14. So i just made my calls to the senators of Hawaii, they sounded
Edited on Tue Mar-15-05 06:04 PM by caligirl
really busy. They were keeping stats on who is against the drilling. I was on the phone just about 30 seconds each. You get to say your for or against the drilling, then they hang up.

edit: I had just heard on AAR between 1 and 2 pm west coast time, that Senator Reid says he needs one more vote on this, and they asked to please call the senators from Hawaii.

17. well conventional wisdom from some Democrats says
"we have to pick out battles" (re the twenty or so Democrats who voted FOR the bankruptcy bill.) That would happen to be Max Cleland on AAR. No doubt, there is some spin as to the embarrassment of having twenty Democrats turn on the people.

Let's see how this pans out.

Landrieu--she has lost her soul, if it was ever a Democratic soul at all, and is proof that going to the middle results in people who will serve their constituents because if they don't they will be accused of pulling the wool over their eyes and will not be elected again. What good is Landrieu and the fight to have her win in Lousiana, (including Bill Clinton intervention in that race), if she votes like a Repulican? What good are any of them who have gone "over"? They are destroying the party.

18. Senator Conrad says votes begin tomorrow at 1PM--includes ANWR vote!
We have less than than 18 hours to stop this sneaky move to drill in ANWR by putting it in the budget resolution where it needs only 51 votes to pass.
