Stand by; Bushies will re-focus DeLay's comments to "secret taping"
Edited on Wed Mar-23-05 09:29 AM by Atman
Give it another hour or two, at most. Soon this whole thing with the secret tapes of DeLay directly contradicting his public comments about politicizing Schiavo will become about the evil liberals doing illegal secret tapings. They'll be calling for an investigation. Maybe they'll appoint Linda Tripp as prosectutor?

3. DeLay was caught with his pants down
He was recorded saying to his minions that God delivered Terry Schiavo to help the conservative movement. And then he tied it in with hs own legal troubles, saying he had been victimized by personal attacks.

The tape was delivered to CNN and they just aired it.

12. I agree. I hope people in his district finally wise up.
He is a "little slithering snake" just like Michael Schiavo said.

I am in favor of getting him recalled - now!

6. Won't mean a thing
Just saw it. But it will be dropped as an issue. No one is going to touch Bush and DeLay will just pretend he is grieving too much in his campaign to save TS to talk about it. It WILL be turned against the Dems and they won't protest or fight it.

5. DeLay gave a speech a couple of days ago
Edited on Wed Mar-23-05 09:19 AM by Atman
He thought he was off-record. Members of a "liberal group" attended the meeting and secretly taped it. DeLay is heard making a big deal about Schiavo, and how "God sent her to us" to help the conservative movement. Then he goes on to say how her case is just about democrats trying to bring down conservatives, and basically made the whole thing about himself.

CNN says they tried to get comments from DeLay, but his office wouldn't return calls. Pretty damning tapes, but the Right will likely ignore them completely, because the directly, irrefutably point to the fact that DeLay is lying through his teeth about not wanting to politicize Schiavo, while at the same time proving he is just trying to deflect the spotlight off his ethics charges. Delay SHOULD be hung over this, or at least booted out of Congress. But we all know he'll probably get an ambassorship out of it instead.

NEW NBY toon finally posted!

9. NYT:Tape provided by Americans United for Separation of Church and State
Edited on Wed Mar-23-05 09:33 AM by flpoljunkie
Article does not say how Americans United for Separation of Church and State got the tape.

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/03/22/politics/22cong.html?pagewanted=all&position=

On Friday, as the leaders of both chambers scrambled to try to stop the removal of Ms. Schiavo's feeding tube, Mr. DeLay, a Texas Republican, turned his attention to social conservatives gathered at a Washington hotel and described what he viewed as the intertwined struggle to save Ms. Schiavo, expand the conservative movement and defend himself against accusations of ethical lapses.

"One thing that God has brought to us is Terri Schiavo, to help elevate the visibility of what is going on in America," Mr. DeLay told a conference organized by the Family Research Council, a conservative Christian group. A recording of the event was provided by the advocacy organization Americans United for Separation of Church and State.

"This is exactly the issue that is going on in America, of attacks against the conservative movement, against me and against many others," Mr. DeLay said.

Mr. DeLay complained that "the other side" had figured out how "to defeat the conservative movement," by waging personal attacks, linking with liberal organizations and persuading the national news media to report the story. He charged that "the whole syndicate" was "a huge nationwide concerted effort to destroy everything we believe in."

14. Wow, DeLay fears there's a "vast left-wing conspiracy," huh?
The irony.

13. Heard some of that on MSNBC. DeLay is gonna have a tough time
explaining comments away to any but the most addicted Kool Aid drinkers. Taking swings at liberals for trying to destroy conservatives by telling the truth about them. He is out of ideas now.

Hey, decent members of the GOP:
DeLay has stopped wrapping himself in the flag, has gone beyond hiding behind Terri and is now using all of you to try and duck ethics accountability!

If his past was defensible, he would defend it. Instead he keeps ducking and hiding. Time to dump the self serving coward and the rest of the crooks who call themselves Republicans. Time to rid the nation of the political hacks who brought us gridlock under Newt, and nothing but lies under DeLay. Get some people in there who actually care about America instead of just talk about caring. Take your party back from the terrorists who have hijacked it and are flying it into the very foundation of America.

Join us and save America from those who lied to go to war, who lie about the environment, who lie when they say Outsourcing is good for us, who lie about Social Security while they use the trust fund as an excuse to lower taxes for the richest of the rich, and who lie about the condition of a woman in Florida then lie about why they lied.

16. Well, well, well - what does it all mean? The MSM actually
reporting this? Are they finally trying not to be so complicit with neocons? Has there been a falling out with the RW MSM? Or has somebody high up decided DeLay is a liability and they want to let him hang out to dry??? Thats what I think.

Or is this a way to keep the Shiavo talk going so they can continue to do - what? I know Shiavo is a diversion. One of their best. Is it to quietly dump the Social Security debacle? Is it to hide the draft board ramp ups? The fact they decided not to pursue who let gannon/guckert into the whitehouse? The election fraud stuff going on in Ohio? It kept people from knowing about the Iraq anti-war protests. Wonder why its being stretched out and why the MSM is suddenly doing their job.
