I hear the Hate from c-pan Wash Journal callers this morning and it is
more than ususal. Caller inners have talked about abortion-sacrifical lambs on an alter, The hubby as a murderer who has the law on his side and then a reall stupid caller who ought to educate herself before she blatters her slime-going on and on how Terri is not even given mouth swabs--saying we do that for animals when passing. And the moderator just lets them rant on and on.

1. One of the Florida rumors.
Her husband tried to kill her, so if he approaved therapy she might recover enough to rat him out.

2. The moderator lets them rant on because that's what they do on C-Span
Everybody gets to say their say, whether we agree with it or not. It's way better than talk radio where the host can just turn off the sound from the caller and bloviate on and on to negate whatever the caller was trying to say.

10. Everybody getting their say is not true anymore...
Edited on Thu Mar-24-05 08:02 AM by slor
they request people to call in on rethuglican lines, periodically, if the viewers watching on that given day disagree with the rethug view, then so be it, they should not try to stack the deck. They constantly cut off, or drop calls with democratic callers. And for the past 2 days, I have gotten through, on the Dem line, only to have the phone ring, and ring away. Last week, they said they would take one last call, it turned out to be a liberal point of view, so Pedro took one more call, after that, from the rethug line. I know it is supposed to be fair, but they seem to be quite active in promoting a conservative/rethug/christian taliban perspective, and that makes the unbiased slant they should have, look much less so.

7. I think it's only the wild people who are calling this morning.
Just a few minutes ago, a caller on the Dem line hung up before saying anything.

I know this happens sometimes. I've heard Brian Lamm on a number of interviews say that some issues draw responses almost solely from one side. He has even had to say, we have no callers from the XXX side on this issue.

I think that's what's happening on this one.

profession, and apparently neither do these legislators or talking heads. This congressman should have studied up a bit.

18. I am one of Vic's constituents in AR (not AK)
and after his vote, I wanted to hear his explaination. Vic is usually quite solid and I wanted to hear what he had to say before deciding whether or not to hold the vote against him.

I was satisfied with his explaination. He, a doctor AND a lawyer, saw no harm in an additional venue for review, particularly when there is so much disagreement among the family about the wishes of the patient who is unable to communicate her wishes. I do not know if I agree with him but I will not hold it against him at the ballot box.

Vic is still okay in my book.

19. Because I heard one of the Schindlers or their reps say it yesterday
I can't remember who or when--I had the TV on in the background--maybe Nancy Grace's CNN show, where she had Schiavo's brother "balanced" by THREE people on the parents' side? The claim was that the mother was not permitted to come into the room to use a moist wipe around Terri's mouth--that only a dry Q-tip would be used, by an employee. It was so ludicrous I could not believe it went unchallenged.

They seem to be burning themselves out on this non-issue. Most Americans don't want to hear their hysterics anymore.

21. I actually think it's dividing them. Although the vocal ones you hear on
talk shows are all hitting the same talking points, the poll data indicates that even a lot of evangelicals don't want the Gov't interfering in their private lives and personal diciisions.

22. These people are touted as the mainstream
They are the John Birch radicals who were sent under their rocks a couple of decades ago for their bizarre beliefs. They have taken over our government and our press. And society is inundated with the radical beliefs painted as "fair and balanced" truth via the media. And people too stupid to think for themselves, or to find out the truth just believe the reports and the lies and the twisting of civil rights and conservativisim and Christianity and the belief in life.

I am daily amazed--and when I think it can't get any more bizarre, it does. A friend of mine said that we should brace ourselves: because these will represent the good times and it is going to get much worse. I hope he is wrong.

Despite their presence in the news, it appears that the hard core is fairly small.

26. It's a small group. They control because of the DREs.
If the vote counting were fair, these people would lose elections and soon crawl back under their rocks.

As for the callers on C-Span, I believe the moderate Repubs stopped calling a long time ago, so all you get now on the Repug line is the hard-core, far-right. And since C-Span tries to take one call from each side, the hard-core gets 50% of the coverage.

25. I think that the congressional action
worked to stoke up the rabidness and hatred that is just under the surface with the most extreme in that movement. That was the intent of DeLay, Bushies (both), et al, wasn't it? Get the far base so fired up that they will remain glued to the bushies and delays and work harder to keep them in power?

Don't think they realized the depth to which the rest of the country was uncomfortable with this... nor the degree to which whipping up the frenzy on the radical religious right - and giving them full frontal camera coverage... would work against them in terms of making more and more folks not only uncomfortable with the political opportunism - but a little bit afraid of the frothing "base" to which was being pandered.

27. How many intelligent viewers bothered calling or emailing?
Washington Journal: Democrats (202) 585-3881
Washington Journal: Republicans (202) 585-3880
Washington Journal: Others (202) 585-3882

And did you know you can submit questions/comments to CSPAN Journal via the web? http://www.c-span.org/community/submitwj.asp

I recommend this because
1. You can do it the night before.
2. CSPAN uses them often, especially when well-written.
3. Saves you the cost of a phone call.

I encourage all to

1. Watch for the next day's CSPAN schedule posted to the CSPAN GROUP every night around 8:00PM eastern - http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=320

2. Join in the discussion of the next days's guests and topics in the CSPAN GROUP every night8:00 - 10:00PM eastern.

3. Watch for the next day's CSPAN schedule posted to the POLITICS forum every night at 10PM eastern. (if it drops, please add a comment / kick).

The CSPAN group was formed to help DU focus its efforts in countering the freepers and bringing our message to the masses. We even have a restricted-access, freeper-proof Yahoo group for discussion of strategy discussion. Check us out.

29. Excellent! Let them dig their own graves. People are starting to get
sick of this nonsense. Many, many Americans are facing this same end-of-life decision, or have in the past, and they will be ANGRY at what they are doing to this poor woman and her husband.
