Mugabe lauds Thatcher
Mugabe lauds Thatcher
30/03/2005 21:11 - (SA)

Harare - Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe praised former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher on Wednesday as a "man-woman" who could resolve issues but said Tony Blair was a "disaster" for his country.

Addressing supporters in Harare at a campaign rally, Mugabe recounted that he had held a "man-to-man" talk with Blair in 1983 to discuss the arrest of 13 British air force officers on suspicion of destroying the country's aircraft.

"We sat down in 1983 in New Delhi, and we had a man-to-man talk. Thatcher was a man-woman," Mugabe said.

In contrast, Mugabe said he viewed Blair as "the greatest disaster that Britain has ever had".

1. If I were in Zimbabwe, I would probably vote for Mugabe.
He's made serious errors, foremost of which is that he's split the liberation forces with his sell-outs to the West and his ill-deserved personality cult. He's turned his back on his own ideology. But the "opposition" truly is bought and paid for by Western interventionists. The MDC will only sell the country.

2. Oh my GAWD
Oh boy. I see I am on the wrong newsgroup when someone thinks a man like this is worthy of a vote.

I have no home here, or on conservative group. Where's the moderate newsgroups where people have reasonable disagreement and free and open thoughts on issues?

3. It's too bad Zimbabweans don't have a moderate choice.
Their choice is between the MDC, a party loyal to Western governments who, no doubt, would give farmland back to the foreign tobacco farmers, and ZANU-PF, a party whose hands aren't totally clean, but who definitely would rather see the wealth of Zimbabwe not make only Europeans rich.

For whom would you vote?

4. Aren't you a little too sensitive?
You want dialogue but think I should be silent? I raise valid points, you may address them or hide in the closet of "moderation," which is really only an escapist delusion.
