Poll question: Worst case scenario 2008 Presidential Primary Poll
Yeah, I know I've left a couple of DU faves off... only room for ten choices in a poll. Sorry.

5. Worst case isn't the same as worst choice
This is just assuming that no knight in shining armor with deep blue eyes comes along to sweep us off our collective feet.

2. I've met Mark Warner. We could do A LOT worse...
Edited on Sun Apr-03-05 08:52 AM by wyldwolf
..we could probably to better. But Warner is an intelligent, solid, and charismatic politician..

And I'm glad our best choice - Wes Clark (IMO) wasn't listed on your Worst list.

4. the polls in NY totally disagree with you
Edited on Sun Apr-03-05 09:05 AM by wyldwolf
She isn't my first choice as Prez, but her popularity among Republicans in NY is running at about 50% - up 10 points.

He popularity among Dems in NY is through the roof.

The GOP simply does not have the votes in NY to beat her.

9. Eh?
Last poll I saw showed a little above 50% support in the state *total*-- not bad but not great either, and vulnerable to a strong Giuliani showing. IIRC he's also got solid bipartisan support.

16. Eh?
Clinton has an approval rating in the state of 69 percent, according to a New York Times poll published last month, and her negative ratings have tumbled to 21 percent.

15. Dream on
They could run a Bush family member and she'd still wipe the floor with them. You are speaking of a virtual world that only exists on your computer.

6. I'm surprised that Jerry Springer doesn't get more respect
Between his empathy for Red State America depicted on his TV show and his new exposure to liberals on Air America I think he may be just the man to lead us back to the White House.

7. I wish I could vote twice!
Joe Lieberman and Hillary Clinton are BOTH the worst possible scenario! I voted for Hillary just to even out the votes but I despise each of them equally!

ever! The DINO would never get elected and would be a terrible president.

11. The result between Lieberman and Clinton would be the same
Hillary = Democratic loss with high Republican turnout
Holy Joementum = Democratic loss with low Democratic turnout

12. Hillary is the only reason the Rethugs haven't totally melted down yet
They're at each other's throats these days, bitter disagreements among the libertarian and social conservative cliques, business vs. big government conservatives (oxymoron?), just about everybody vs. the neocons. The one thing that seems to keep them from fraying completely is the prospect of a Hillary run in 2008: http://www.nytimes.com/2005/04/03/weekinreview/03nago.html?pagewanted=2

Money quote: "I would say that Hillary Clinton is probably the most unifying thing the Republican Party has," as uttered by a prominent party activist.

Just great. One of the most tried-and-true ways to beat your enemies is to divide them against each other; instead, we're effectively unifying them against us. But hey, we've gotta countenance the ambitions of the Clintons and the DLC, even though Hillary has thoroughly supported the Iraq War and permanent bases in Iraq, unchecked outsourcing of US jobs, and many other positions that would make the GOP proud. This is called "having the worst of both worlds"-- a candidate who essentially identifies with the views of the opposition and yet unifies the opposition like no other factor.

13. Lieberman no chance, but Hilary Clinton, a fucking DISASTER!!
Edited on Sun Apr-03-05 03:42 PM by Zinfandel
Disaster in the making. She is NOT Bill, get that in your head right now and nowhere near the charisma.

The republicans are drooling at the thought of Mrs. C. running. You think the big "A" abortion brings in the huge donations and voters for the republicans, or you think GAY rights or gun control brings out the voters for this sexist republican party?

Just have Senator Clinton, a women, a Clinton, a liberal, as the presidential nominee, the republican owned corporate media and the GOP machine will easily destroy her and the Democrats.

I live in CA, a life long voting Democrat, but supported H Clinton, sent her donations, helped out writing emails, letters, even a few phone calls to friends.

But it would be a disaster for the Democrats if Ms. Clinton were the Democratic nominee.

14. Animatronic FDR at the head of the ticket
With Howard Dean's DNA to round it out.

Especially if Howard Dean's stem cells can get Animatronic FDR up out of that wheelchair.

We can't possibly lose, especially if their ticket is Animatronic Reagan and Newt Gingrich's DNA.

17. I'm tempted to say Lieberman...
...but I think Clinton is far more dangerous, because more Dems don't see her for what she really is, and assume that people like me who oppose her do so because we "hate strong women" or some other nonsense rather than opposing her for her policies.

It goes without saying that neither would get my vote, of course.

18. Most of that list makes me want to jump off a cliff, but then
given our corrupt and ineffective election system the left could put up the most incredible candidates with the best multi-party appeal ever and still "lose".

21. Jerry Springer would be great for issues like the Schiavo-Schindler feud
He could have them throw chairs at each other, while someone in the audience takes her shirt off.

A Democratic Congress could then spend its time cleaning out the mess the neocons leave behind.
