Okay, I just had to turn off Ed Schultz and the shoutfest with
the DeLay apologist.

So--was the jerk right? Did Harry Reid really sponsor legislation that would have benefited his son to the tune of $300,000?

And if not, why did Schultz concede the point so easily?

Anybody?

1. Limbaugh talked about that yesterday
It's typical diversionary tactics. Illegal is illegal. If its true about Reid, investigate it, let the chips fall. You can't use it as an excuse not to investigate Delay. The problem is there have been no serious ethic investigations in Congress for years. This country needs an honest house cleaning on both sides in Congress. It might make people look twice at corporate campaign finance reform if they knew the extent of the corruption.

2. I quite agree, AValdoux. . .
If there are unethical, criminal people in Congress, then Right or Left, junior or senior, let the information be brought forth and, if warranted, let the offenders be sent to prison. It's well past time to clean all our houses. I suspect there's more to be found amongst the Republicans, but party affiliation, seniority, or popularity should not be the determining factor as to when and how an investigation should be handled.

3. Could you give a little more info on what happened with Schultz. Who was
the DeLay apologist? I've not heard him have RW Repugs on his show and he was complaining about Delay not being investigated earlier on his show before I had to leave to do something else where I missed what you are talking about.

7. Homey (Ed's Producer)
got his name from somewhere on the net or somthing like that. The guy had no clue who Ed was. Asking pointed questions too close to his beliefs got this Delay guy from TX really, really, upset.

End handled him well. He won the discussion when the Delay guy went off on a shouting match then only blaming Democrats.

5. Tu Quoque
Another right-wing favorite logical fallacy, "well, you did it, too."

Doesn't take the heat off of Delay -- as an above poster said, let Reid be investigated too, and send them both up the river if necessary. Reid's alleged transgressions don't give DeLay a free pass, except for in bizarro world.

Reid'son was an industry lobbyist working with Congress, but it became very controversial and he stopped doing that.

I imagine that this is the origin of the story, but I dont know the details and I would not trust Limbaugh on them. So if somebody knows them, he is welcome to post them.

EDIT Here is the LAtimes version of the story.

And here was Reid's answer:

8. Thanks for the links. I'm too tired to make much sense
of any of this, but at first glance it would appear that Reid could and did claim with some legitimacy that he was doing what any good pol does, that is to say bringing home the pork for the good citizens of the State of Nevada, and any benefit that might have accrued to his son(s) was gravy.

In any case, from what I know so far of DeLay's various pecadilloes, any benefit to anyone but himself and his immediate family was pure accident.
