Blair may be done in the leadership position

Despite entering the pantheon of British political giants with a predicted third term, estimates in an exit poll that the Labour majority in parliament has been sharpy reduced could spell trouble for a premier already badly hit by the
Iraq war.

Blair, who turns 52 on Friday, has led Labour to a majority of 66, down from the 167 seen in the last general election in 2001, the BBC exit poll said.

Pundits have predicted that Blair, who has already pledged to step down at the end of a third term in office, could hand over power much sooner to his ambitious Chancellor of the Exchequer, Gordon Brown, if the fallout over Iraq looks to have fatally undermined his popularity.

3. The results on C-Span/BBC
about 10 minutes ago showed losses of from 6 to 11% in Labor votes in the early reports on about 8 seats. Some of those seats were in Labor strongholds. That suggests that Labor may suffer those kinds of losses across the board, although it may just be a fluke due to the way the seats are reported. Looks like Labor needs to change leadership and fast.
