Clark supporter confronted by Bush supporter
Edited on Mon Dec-22-03 01:44 PM by ResistTheCoup
Great story from the Clark Community Blog!

http://hollybob.forclark.com/story/2003/12/22/12227/001#3

My husband Will had a great time in the grocery store parking lot this weekend.

He was about to pull out of the parking space when an older gentleman knocked on his window and said, "Bush in 04!!" (He had no doubt spied my husband's "Clark in 04" bumper sticker.)

Will rolled down his window and said, "I can't do that - I love my country too much."

To which the man responded, "Well, if you'd spent any time in the military, you would probably think differently!"

To which Will responded, "I won the National Defense Medal in Desert Storm." The startled man sputtered, "Oh, well, good for you," and quickly walked off . .

That is hilarious. What do you suppose the odds are that the Bush supporter was a Delay-style chickenhawk?

7. Great story....
the military belongs to the dems just as much as it belongs to the repubs and unfortunately the neo-cons!

11. Damn right!
We have a Clark '04 bumpersticker on our car and we're both veterans. I just hope we're as quick-witted as Will when confronted by a Bushite!

Way to go Will!!

10. The problem is for every military vote Clark will bring...

he'll drive off half a dozen greens and left end dems who do not want a military guy in the white house.

14. what's more important....beating Bush or maintaining 'left purity'?
That's the way the anti-war democrats played it in 68......giving us Nixon!!!!!!!!!!

Do those on the left really think sitting out for any reason is worth another four years of this????????

17. What happened to the ABB that everyone is always claiming?
Does that not apply to greens and some of the 'pure' Dems???

You've got a point - do they really think that if their candidate doesn't get the nomination that they will be sitting out and helping Bush get elected? That's crazy.

23. Huh?
I live in a small community but I can tell you every Green I know is voting for Clark. Why? Because he has no special interest crap, some of them have been in the military and get it, and finally, he's out to protect the Constitution.

He is not a politician, he is a soldier and he will keep his word.

24. I don't think so
since the alternative at that point would be Bush, and any progress to be made will have to begin with ousting Bush from the White House, most of them will vote for the Dem nominee.

25. 26 million vets
And their friends and family. Don't underestimate the military vote. And I don't think the greens and far left will vote for a Democrat anyway. They'll either sit it out or run Nader.

29. Bull, you may wish it were so but bull
One of my best friends is GLBTD retired air force and he is VERY green, also happens to LOVE CLARK. There's plenty more like him too. Most core Dems are the rough handed variety, not the ivory tower variety. They have military family, history and are often military or retired themselves.

Thanks for caring though.

15. It's amazing!
This has happened to me a few times also. Conservatives always assume liberals never served in the military. One time, after one of my letters to the editor supporting gun-control appeared in our newspaper, an angry pro-gunner CALLED me at home and started yelling at me that I was afraid of guns and if I had ever served in the military I would think differently. I told him I served my country for four years during Vietnam. He was silent for a moment and then I asked him if he had served. Well, no, he admitted, and hung up.

WHY DO THEY ASSUME LIBERALS NEVER SERVED IN THE MILITARY? And why don't THEY feel an obligation to serve?

16. Exactly!
Some of the most gung-ho repubs I know who are the loudest about 'supporting the troops' never spent a day in the military!

And I work with a number of ex-military types now (who served mostly in the last 15 years or so) who automatically assume, once we start talking politics and they see I'm a liberal, that they can flaunt their military service and tell me I don't 'understand' because obviously I haven't served in the military. I always gets a kick out of seeing their faces when I tell them that I served six years in the military during Vietnam when they were still in grade school. Then their back-pedalling begins!

28. R vs. C
Republicans: We love the military!
Clark: No you don't - you love defense contractors. You tolerate the enlisted and you REALLY seem to hate veterans.

Republicans: You're just a bunch of pot smoking draft dodgers.
Clark: So tell us, was Texas just too hot for you that year, you AWOL coke monkey?

Republicans: Only Republicans are trustworthy with national defense and can keep us safe
Clark: Which orrifice would you like these four stars in while I explain to you how UNSAFE this uncurious pretender has left us?

30. "Won" The National Defense Service Medal! You're The First!
If I remember correctly, the NDSM was automatically awarded to all active and reserve (Including Nat'l Guard) components during Desert Shield/Desert Storm!

Thanks for your service though!
