Very Interesting Numbers --Democrats Need to do something |
|
I picked these figure from Op Ed by Al Neuharth In USA Today.
201.5 million US Citizens will elligible to vote in November 04.
55 million are registered Republicans and 72 Million are Registered Democrats. 42 Million are Registered zIndependants(inclues NO Party or Minor Parties).
Bases on Ballot Access News of San Franscisco.
Registered Democrats are by far the largest group. It should not be hard for us to win any election if we could get them all voting again.

1. Voter turnout is the problem |
|
or rather the lack therof. If memory serves about 100 million voters went to the polls in 2000. Only half. Thats pretty damn sorry. There might be millions more Democrats out there but what good does it do us if they don't have a reason to vote? Democrats haven't been giving their supporters enough reason to vote. Its why we lost in 2002. The scary part is, we're about to do it to ourselves again.

that were maybe made up using the percentages from California? I enjoy demographics, especially political demographics. Never seen anything like this.
These numbers and terms don't make sense, if not impossible.
72 + 55 + 42 = 169 million.
32.5 million unregistered? That should be a lot higher.
USA Today is crud. :P

That leaves about 30 million who aren't registered. Is that what you need to know.
I've heard that only about 35% of those who are are eligible to register and vote, do. Those might be 2002 statistics though. Obviously, if it was 2000 that'd be around 300 million voters, which wouldn't wash. It is pretty sad that there are so many unregistered.
We've been trying to register people in our Dean meet up, by passing out forms and telling our members to give them to clerks and people they meet while out shopping, and others in low wage jobs. No guarantee they will vote correctly for Dems, but we figure the majority should be smart enough.
